MSI Radeon HD 7970 Lightning Boost Edition Graphics Card

MSI Radeon HD 7970 Lightning Boost Edition Graphics Card

MSI launches the MSI Radeon HD 7970 Lightning Boost Edition Graphics Card. The new Radeon graphics card is to succeed the the 'older' R7970 model, this time it has the Tahiti XT2 GPU embedded into that phat PCB. The first version of the Lightning shipped with 1070 MHz core clock frequency and and 5.60 GHz on the memory, this new R7970 Lightning BE ships with a slightly higher 1070 MHz core and a 1150 MHz  Boost. The memory clocks have been altered as well and got upgraded towards 6 GHz memory giving the card a 288 GB/s memory bandwidth

The card still has the standard reference 3 GB of GDDR5 memory over it's familiar 384-bit wide memory interface, so no upgrade to 6GB (which would be a bit of a waste anyways).

Pretty much aside from the GPU and clock changes almost all other specs and features remain similar to the previous model. That means it still has a 17-phase VRM, comes with the GPU Reactor module and that sexy TwinFrozr IV cooling solution.

The new R7970 Lightning Boost Edition Graphics Card should be released at a US $499.99 price-point, but that is still to be discussed.

The lightning is a good card, this new model should thus be even better, will be interesting to read the article. :)

EDIT: Ah I'm being a bit dense it seems, thought it was a review. :D
(The article was still a interesting read of course.)
