MSI Officially announces GTX 970 GAMING 4G GOLDEN EDITION

MSI is pleased to announce a special and limited edition GAMING graphics card powered by NVIDIA's GTX 970 GPU. The new MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G GOLDEN EDITIONfeatures increased clock speeds and improved cooling performance thanks to an all copper heatsink and heatpipe with anti-oxidation treatment.

The new MSI twin Frozr V Thermal Design is the pinnacle of graphics card air cooling. With a smaller than 2-slot design the new Twin Frozr V is able to surpass previous generation's by a large margin. The new 10cm Torx fans ensure huge amounts of silent airflow and visually match the bold new look of the Twin Frozr V.

The heatsink itself is re-organized through the SuperSU design which increases heat-pipe efficiency, especially when combined with Airflow Control Technology. Hybrid Frozr is a throwback to 2008 when MSI was the first to market high-end, zero noise graphics cards thanks to fans that stop spinning in low-temperature situations. Additionally, you will find Independent Fan Control on certain models which allows fans to spin independently of one-another based on component temperature below the fans.

With the GTX 970 GAMING 4G GOLDEN EDITION, the next-generation of MSI GAMING graphics cards MSI is leveling-up the PC gaming experience. The MSI Gaming App allows gamers to quickly switch between OC, Gaming and Silent modes depending on their needs. Now featuring the EyeRest tab, which offers quick access to specific monitor color profiles for games, movies and a special EyeRest mode which reduces blue light. Reduction in blue light emission helps tune your body to the night-time so it's easier to rest after long gaming sessions.

Couldn't care less about the color.
But nothing a screwdriver and some ultraflat black cant fix...
Love the copper heatsink and might go for this instead of the G1 from GB.

Why do manufacturers are changing the display ports of the GTX 970s from the 3DP, 1 HDMI and 1 DVI to 2 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 DP?

I want to buy a MSI GTX 970 with the 3 DP. Otherwise it goes well with my Gaming series of MSI MB.

Probably the connectors are cheaper during the time of construction :D

.... and I'm serious.

Ive tested the difference between pure copper vs copper heatpipes + aluminum and the difference isnt as big as you think. The name of the heatsink is escaping me I think it had TRU in the name maybe was from thermaltake not sure but they had 2 versions of it the all copper and the copper + aluminum and the pure copper only changed the temp by 2 degrees C. Still it is something. But this is the reason companies dont rly do this often. Copper costs a lot more than aluminum and it only changes temps very small.

nah, its about the looks of it.
dont really care for the cooling part, since i have an external WC which dumps the cpu heat outside the case, e.g. gpu temps are about 20*C lower than usual.

Its not as bad as people make it out to be.

So far it idles nicely at around 35C w/ fans off and maxes around 69C gaming and 74C benchmarking and thats at 1500MHz/8000MHz no voltage change.

The ram doesnt show up on GPU-Z but could be Hynix instead of the Samsung that are found on the first batches.

Here are some BIOS changes from the GE vs Gaming, you can see the fan profiles being tweaked as well as some higher stock clocks. Temp increased to 1300RPM@60C vs 900RPM@60C and their advertised "ZeroFrozer" but really turns off the fans @59C>

Boost States:

All the others are the same.

Its an 8+6 pin configuration, its slightly heavier than gaming edition and has a backplate. It's no lightning edition but its a pretty solid card. :)
