It's pretty disgusting how a "new" graphics card based on a chip from 1.5 years ago (though with a little bit more cores enabled) will cost 1600€ when it's not even the top model, not even the second to the top, in fact, now that RTX 3080 Ti exists as well. I guess this is the new norm and PC gaming will start to wither. Sony and MS's console divisions couldn't have received a gift any greater than this. Nintendo as well.

The GPU prices are still tied to ethereum value, so $1600 is the price right now. If it was a normal price, this product should be $750-$800 IMO at the max. Also, most of the entire 3000 series cards are still sitting in mining warehouses and home mining rigs, so there is an outrageous demand from gamers still as most haven't been able to get a card during this entire generation, so they can charge 2X msrp anyway and many gamers will gladly pay it. Heck, they could have charged $2600 and they still would sell out. I'm not sure people have price limits these days. It doesn't seem they do.

There are plenty of RTX cards available already. Not every model, sure, but many models in good quantities. I have no idea how fast they are moving now. It reveals the demand from gamers (and miners) isn't anymore as high as it was last year. Prices have barely dropped, though. Of course some, maybe even many, gamers don't seemingly have an upper limit, but the game industry relies on huge numbers. Game prices have been rising very slowly, yet the development cost of an AAA game has multiplied many times over the years. Microtransactions do compensate, for some games astronomically, but in the end even those do rely on big numbers of active gamers. In fact they rely especially on it. Once old cards stop working, what are the gamers going to do? I believe the average gamer won't hand over 1000 bucks for a mainstream card. Then it's game over for PC gaming.
