MSI GT80 Game laptop has Mechy keyboard
MSI unveils the GT80 Titan, the world's first gaming laptop with a mechanical keyboard. First of its kind, MSI's GT80 Titan ushers the future of gaming by integrating a SteelSeries gaming keyboard with Cherry Brown MX switches into the 18-inch gaming beast.
Mechanical keyboards provide superior tactile feedback, increases durability, and enhances overall gaming experience by eliminating key jamming even during the most heated battle sessions.
"Performance is key for gamers and the GT80 Titan will forever change the mobile gaming experience," says Andy Tung, president of MSI Pan America. "We are proud to be at the forefront of the gaming evolution and will continue to provide solutions that deliver the most outstanding gaming experience in the world."
MSI's newest gaming laptop uses standard Cherry switches and a standard keycap with 27 mm of thickness, nearly 5 times of traditional laptop keyboards. It is also the world's slimmest and lightest 18-inch gaming laptop, measuring 17% thinner and 22% lighter than its closest competitor. To fully optimize the keyboard, the GT80 Titan features an enhanced SteelSeries Engine with CloudSync, allowing users to save and synchronize settings via SteelSeries cloud storage.
"The GT80 Titan blends the performance of a high-end gaming desktop with the mobility of a laptop," adds Tung.

People who actually use mechanical keyboards do not have wrist on "wrist rest" because they have such keyboard for purpose of typing not resting.
Other than that you are right, that thing is ugly. and for gaming it may be less comfortable, but it depends how much above desk that keys are. But I believe they moved keyboard down to save space and that is how they made it thinner and lighter. (not bad idea, but in combination with mechanical key switches may be bit unfortunate as they take quite some space)
Their choice of MX Brown is good one, I prefer those over other mechanical.
But worst of all is that they have around keyboard this tall wall it is like keyboard being in valley.
There's some major oversights with this laptop - it's ironic that it's got such a good mechanical keyboard yet no wrist rest, typing would be awful, as would gaming, not comfortable or efficient! And where's the touchpad, and what's with all the wasted space at the top end near the screen!? They took a massive dump on the ergonomics!

They probably had the idea of the keyboard distanced from the screen so that your hand would not obstruct the view.
Personally I'd rather have the numpad done away with to allow for larger keys which will be more comfortable and natural to use.
As it is, all that unused space could have been fitted with an auxiliary touchscreen monitor/pseudo touchpad that could be used to display useful stuff. Would have made it more practical and innovative.

Is there some reason we can't have a normal laptop keyboard and a mechanical plugged into USB?
Then we don't have the laptop design and size being compromised by tall keys.
