MSI discontinues GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X TRIO, etailers cancel pre-orders

MSI discontinues GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X TRIO, etailers cancel pre-orders

The Gaming X Trio is being phased out, and retailers here in the Netherlands have started canceling pre-orders. That's not the entire story though, as the Gaming X TRIO is to simply be replaced by the Gaming Z Trio.

The question occurred because Alternate (huge etailer) here in the Netherlands was referenced in Reddit, unfulfilled pre-orders for the MSI RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio would be canceled. That information was relayed to the pre-order customers. MSI has confirmed this. According to MSI, there are no differences between the 3080 X and Z Trio in terms of clock rates (GPU and RAM) - the only difference would be found in the backplate (change from graphene to metal).

We reviewed the Gaming X TRIO at the time of release, and it is an excellent product.

that is the dumbest reason I heard for cancelling orders. We're replacing X with Z in the name.....
shame on you MSI
I've had MSI cards exclusively since 980ti but this is ridiculous.

and I guess cancelled pre-orders mean the customers lose their "place" in the waiting list ?
I also suppose the price will go up at the same time ? it's the latest trend end a product line that never really existed and release "new models" costing +200-300$
the "latest" EKWB 3090 is exactly that, card already existed for <2000USD and now it's re-relased except it's 2400USD (still a 2 connector card tough)

MSI: we have replaced the X by Z because we sold all the X stock to Miners which paid a lot of money for them... lol...

asus and msi did announce that they would have rised price of videocards some weeks ago.
This is the only way to do it for stock already booked but not produced.
