Modern Warfare no longer fits on a 250GB SSD

Modern Warfare no longer fits on a 250GB SSD

Perhaps you can recall it? The system requirements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare recommended 175GB of free space, which we felt is quite a lot.

An August update pushed that figure to over 200GB, and we kept thinking it was too much. And now, as @BattleNonSense has pointed out on Twitter, Modern Warfare no longer fits in a 250GB SSD.

This is what happens when one game contains a singleplayer campaign, the co-operative Special Ops mode, and an entire constantly updated live service battle royale mode in the form of Warzone. On console players can choose to uninstall specific modes and packs, and back when the Call of Duty games were available on Steam some of them had similar options. But players on Battle.net have no such luck.

Of course, as you're not the only person in the world and people do like other things.

HAHAHAHA! I broke out in chorus thanks to that!

I haven't played this version of Modern Warfare yet, is it any good?

Back when Call of Duty was on Steam you could install the single player mode separately from the multiplayer mode. They should really go back to this again because now an entry level SSD is no longer capable of holding the game.

What's galling is that if you go to the Call of Duty website (https://www.callofduty.com/modernwarfare/pc) and go to the system requirements it doesn't even reflect these new requirements, it still lists 175GB of space.

It's not just a problem of an entry level SSD. All the PC gamers I know have more than a single game installed. This game alone would devour half of a regular 500GB SSD.

I wonder if they are doing something wrong. But i doubt it. 200gigs of stuff, what is there? Textures and sounds take all this space? Are there fmvs?
Can't be the code.
Its assets , asset optimization is an afterthought these days, it just isnt worth the development time to them, its unfortunately a console trend, for the longest time games would be between 8-15gb mainly because you could fit that on a dvd compressed, now with bluray xl they have 128gb of space+ the ability to download the game, the sizes grow to the media. same thing happened in the early days with CDs.

Frankly im surprised that sony or microsoft allow them to use that much space without good reason, thats like half of the space on a ps4 500gb model.
