In November, Microsoft Flight Simulator will celebrate its 40th anniversary. Microsoft believed that this should be commemorated. There will be a free update and a lovely trailer for all Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 owners or Xbox Game Pass users.

The Redmond-based company is celebrating the 40th anniversary of flight simulation with, among other things, the long-awaited integration of helicopters, gliders and a new airliner - the Airbus A310. Work on additional vintage aircraft is also continuing, and thanks to a cooperation with the Halo franchise, amateur pilots can already take flight in the iconic D77-TC Pelican, as shown in the new clip.

While the sci-fi plane from Halo Infinite and Company is currently in the game, Flight Simulator gamers will have to wait until November for the rest of the Anniversary Update. Microsoft has good news for this:

"The 40th Anniversary Edition is a free highlight for all existing Microsoft Flight Simulator users - whether they have purchased the title or are playing via Xbox Game Pass. This birthday gift to the community is a tribute to the past, but also a Step into the exciting future of aviation."

In addition, the Redmond company reveals a few details of the November update in advance. Among other things, helicopters are to be "brought to life" with a completely new fluid dynamics simulation and gliders are to be given a new feeling of flying. In cooperation with third-party developers such as iniSimulations, MilViz, Bluemesh, Airplane Heaven and others, the developers are currently finalizing new models, of which the following nine have already been confirmed.

New historical planes:

  • Wright Flyer
  • Ryan NYP ("Spirit of St. Louis")
  • Douglas DC-3
  • De Havilland Canada DHC-2-Beaver

New Helicopters:

  • Bell-407
  • Gumbal Cabri G2

Gliders:

  • DG Aircraft LG8-18

The free 40th Anniversary Edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator will be available on Windows PC and Xbox Series X |S, as well as Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass in November 2022. The flight simulation can also be streamed to smartphones, tablets and PCs with low computing power via Xbox Cloud Gaming.
