Microsoft Replacing Surface 4 Pro models that have screen issues after update

Microsoft Replacing Surface 4 Pro models that have screen issues after update

It looks like the Microsoft Surface 4 Pro has a bit of an issue after an update that was applied in July users have been reporting display issues. It seems that the problem is so far fetched that Microsoft now physically is replacing the units.

The big problem is that after the update, the touch screen has stopped working, Reinstalling Windows does not solve the issue and updating to new firmware versions neither. Microsoft's customer service mentions it actually has to do with the size of the old firmware version versus the new one, which is overwritten and causes a failure.

Multiple users now report that Microsoft is swapping out the effected Surface Pro 4's for a new one, even if the warranty period had already expired.

I'm not one of the usual M$ bashers but that one is ridiculous. Good on them replacing units but something that is their own product and they bork it is beyond stupid.

When a software company needs to fix it's software issues and resorts to replacing the hardware you know it's really bad lol.

I remember that Windows 10 has had a bad habit of overwriting the EDID information of monitors with invalid one on some older laptops and some older monitors when it launched, ruining the screens. Sounds like this is similar. I wonder who had the bright idea allowing Windows to automatically write firmware/BIOS/etc.. It can only lead to trouble.
