Microsoft removes application to verify Windows 11 requirements - relaxes requirements

Microsoft removes application to verify Windows 11 requirements - relaxes requirements

Earlier on, we reported a handy tool that verifies if your PC is compatible with the new Windows 11, which was short-lived as Microsoft removed it after several failures in the detection mechanism.

Microsoft has deleted the application that allowed us to verify that our PC met the minimum Windows 11 requirement following multiple detection failures.

Apparently even Microsoft itself does not currently know what the requirements of Windows 11 are. The company itself has now recognized that it evaluates various requirements and thus the application is not testing against the final requirements and the results of your analysis may therefore be incorrect. For instance, first the company said that TPM 2.0 would be necessary but afterward it confirmed that only TPM 1.2 is required and there are also concerns about the compatibility of both AMD and Intel CPU generation.

The official minimum requirements are the following, although they may vary:

  • Processor: 1 giga Hertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores in a compatible 64-bit processor or system on a chip (SoC). Intel Core 8th. Generation or higher, or 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen. Generation or higher.
  • Memory:  4GB RAM
  • Storage: Storage  device of 64 GB or more
  •  Graphics card: DirectX 12 / WDDM 2.x compatible graphics
  • Screen:  > 9 ″ with HD resolution (720p)
  • Internet connection:  Windows 11 Home requires a Microsoft account and Internet connectivity
  • TPM 2.0 support

Updated: The minimum system requirements are now changed by Microsoft. Microsoft stresses that Intel, AMD Zen 2 and Qualcomm 7 and 8-series SOCs of the eighth generation would run Windows 11. The software company will also make sure through Insiders builds that Ryzen processors and Intel Gen 7 in the first generation are still adequate enough.

All this shows is that developers and software engineers are not necessarily competent communicators or strategists. In fact they can be idiots outside their specialized fields.

My guess is the fact it didn’t actually inform you as to why your PC was incompatible is the reason it was pulled, don’t be surprised if an updated version appears that just tells you what’s wrong with zero changes to the actual requirements to install Windows 11.

Maybe the NSA told them that all the "terrorists", that they want the backdoor TPM key storage system to work with, only have older machines with 1.2 modules. Wouldn't want the US government encryption backdoor to only work on people with newer fancier PCs would we...

I remember clearly at the time Windows 10 was released; Microsoft said they would not be releasing any more new versions of Windows - yet here we are!

Additionally, over many years (and many Windows iterations), I remember clearly that Microsoft, when releasing new versions of Windows would post system requirements that had nothing to do with hardware level security - it was all about system performance levels - do you have enough RAM?; do you have an adequate CPU? Ect, ect.

Let me say it clearly, I prefer the system performance paradigm over the hardware security paradigm. Or to put it another way; Microsoft needs to make their Windows environment as secure as they possibly can, and permit me the free liberty to take the necessary steps to make my rig (hardware) as secure as I possibly can!!
