E3 2017: Microsoft has unveiled the Xbox One X Formerly Known as Project Scorpio

Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One X, a new Xbox console aimed at gaming in 4K quality. The Xbox One X will be on the market for 499 euros on November 7th. The Xbox One S, at the same time, gets a price reduction to 249 euros.

Microsoft has unveiled the Xbox OnMicrosoft plans to have 22 titles ready for launch. Priced at $499.99, the system is scheduled for a worldwide release on Nov. 7the X, a new Xbox console aimed at gaming in 4K quality during game E3. The Xbox One X will be on the market for 499 euros on November 7th. The Xbox One S, at the same time, gets a price reduction to 249 euros. The One X uses an eight-core(Jaguar)  processor from AMD although not officially stated, running at 2.3GHz (earlier rumors stated 2.7 GHx). It is a substantial boost over the Xbox One, whose eight cores ran at 1.75GHz.

In the graphics department, the One X will get a GPU with 40 compute units / 2560 Shader processors running at 1172MHz. Even more startling is the massive 12GB of GDDR5 memory, which is a handy combination of more and faster memory. This 12GB will be shared by the whole system, so some will be reserved for the CPU (3GB) with the rest going to the GPU (9GB). You'll get a 1TB hard disk inside your Xbox One X, along with a UHD Blu-ray player. The Xbox One X will include a liquid-cooled vapor chamber used more often with servers and high-end PC cards.

  • CPU Eight custom x86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz
  • GPU 40 customised compute units at 1172MHz
  • Memory 12GB GDDR5
  • Memory Bandwidth 326GB/s
  • Hard Drive 1TB 2.5-inch
  • Optical Drive 4K UHD Blu-ray

All Xbox One (S) accessories and games work on Xbox One X. A number of games like Minecraft and Ghost Recon Wildlands are upgraded that add 4K functionality. Xbox One X will retail for $499, 449 pounds, 499 euros, CA$599 and AU$649.

Forza Motorsport 7

Microsoft also released new games, of which 22 will be exclusive to the Xbox One. One of the new titles is Forza Motorsport 7, the newest part in the race series that will have new weather effects this time.  Forza Motorsport 7 will appear on October 3, 2017 for the Xbox One and PC. On the Xbox One X, the game runs in 4K and at 60 frames per second.

Assassin's Creed

On October 27th, the newest Assassin's Creed will appear for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Assassin's Creed: Origins takes place during the early days of the Brotherhood of Assassins, in ancient Egypt. In the game, the player creeps into the skin of Bayek, the last Magi, who protects the country against evil forces. During the gameplay trailer Bayek uses arrow and bow, sword and shield and throwing lessons. The game contains several rpg elements.

Original Xbox

During his press conference, Microsoft also announced that it would be possible to play some original Xbox games on Xbox One consoles. There is already a range of 385 Xbox 360 games available for the latest Microsoft console, but games for the original Xbox were not playable yet. The first Xbox games come to the Xbox One later this year.

Makes sense Xbox One games running on the Xbox One X.. As for Xbox 360 games, I'm presuming that's by some sort of emulation. In any case, I don't know whether Xbox One X was the right name for it but I do understand the reason for the name was probably to signify its compatibility with the Xbox One/One S. The Xbox One S is very similar to the Xbox One capability wise, the Xbox One X however is signficiantly more powerful. The risk of calling it One X is that it doesn't clearly define exactly how much different it really is.

Wait, am I reading this correct??? A GPU with 2560 shaders??? What gpu is this? I thought it was going to use Polaris 10 GPU with 2304 shaders... Does this mean that AMD Polaris 10 is not a fully unlocked GPU? Or is this a whole custom built GPU?

Polaris 10 has 2560 shaders, but for some reason has never been fully utilized on discrete graphics cards.

"Polaris 10 -

2304 Stream Processors / cores, spread across 36 Compute Units. Though the silicone itself allows for up to 2560 Stream Processors if all 40 Compute Units are enabled."

Yep,

Rx580 has 36 compute units * 64
New Xbox has "fully unlocked" 40 compute units * 64.

That's pretty awesome for a console imo - also considering they can squeeze more performance from it then a Desktop GPU :)

Might pick one up afterall.. hmmm.

*Edit
Doh, you just editied your own post with the same info  :stewpid:
