Microsoft Flight Simulator Patch 1.8.3.0 has been released

Microsoft and Asobo have released a new performance patch for Microsoft Flight Simulator. According to the teams, patch 1.8.3.0 brings a number of CPU and GPU performance improvements.

Going into more details, this latest update tweaks CPU thread priorities to reduce interruption of frame critical threads. Furthermore, it optimizes loading system to reduce overall loading times, as well as heavy airport scenes impact on CPU. In addition, it reduces the amount of GPU overdraw to improve GPU performance. As always, Steam and Microsoft Store will download this update the next time you launch their clients

-- MS --

The primary focus of this patch is to address many of the « in-sim » issues reported by the community. We are constantly triaging the issues/feedback we have received to help plan our future patch work. Feedback from the community is a vital part of how we define our focus for each update. Thank you for all your help and we look forward to continuing working with the community to improve the Microsoft Flight Simulator experience.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT

  • Optimized cockpit screen display when screens are not displayed on screen.
  • New option available to control cockpit screen update frequency.
  • Tweaked CPU thread priorities to reduce interruption of frame critical threads.
  • Optimized loading system to reduce overall loading times.
  • Optimized heavy airport scenes impact on CPU.
  • Reduced the amount of GPU overdraw to improve GPU performance.
  • Memory optimizations to reduce software memory footprint and improve performance on memory limited computers.
  • Overall performance optimizations.

It broke more than it fixed. real sore point is Instruments now switch off mid flight, and joystick sensitivity calibration disappeared.

Hmmm just as well, I guess. I can't even download it. My 5mbps DSL internet has a 150GB/mo data cap. So there's the whole month of internet to get one game. Although, at my download speed, it could take two months to get it. So maybe there's still hope......

You don´t even have access to the controller *.xml files in \Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.8.3.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\Input\ folder... Somone managed to get access? I have a old G940 found somewhere deep in my cellar and refurbished it. It worked fine, until new patch. It would be really helpful to edit those *.xml files, to add several special controllers manually... was searching the web for this issue, but nothing found yet... Also the Logitech profiler is almost useless because you can´t assign the flightsimulator.exe file..The MSFS2020 installation directory has some very "odd" and special file permission rules...and yes, a performance comparison would be interesting.....
