Microsoft has ended free Windows 10 upgrades through Assistive Technologies
It had a good, nice and long run. But the options to freely upgrade towards Windows 10 through the Assistive Technologies option, has been removed from the website, the upgrade feature has been halted.
The corresponding webpage now reports that the upgrade options have ended last December 2017 (MS expanded that towards January 16th). Interestingly enough, if you are fast, the upgrade link is still online, so you could still use the workaround, we're just not sure for how long this will work though.
One Bypass Left
However, this bypass (I think) still works: users who used the Media Creation Tool to upgrade Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 towards Windows 10: with that license for that specific OS you can still upgrade and activate Windows 10, at no additional cost. So basically you enter your Windows 7 or 8 license, and then Windows 10 gets activated.
Technically, this feature now requires a license for Windows 10, and this method supposedly already expired July 31th, 2016. Here again, Microsoft has made little effort to close that option. So you could (if you desire to) upgrade swiftly and cheap.
Should you opt to purchase Windows 10 at a later stage from the Microsoft Store, a license for the Home edition of Windows 10 costs 140 euros and for Pro customers have to drop 260 euros.

I hated Windows 10 when it was released, still don't care for it but it has been keeping me busy at my shop. So keep up the great work Microsoft.

AFAIK, Win7 beta was the largest and most successful (let's be honest, people LOVED it!) beta in software history. That's the time to gather telemetry if users wish to supply it, full well knowing what they are doing. It was so successful that it is when I started debugging, learning straight from H2SO4 whom I hold in the highest regard. Honest, the guy (or girl, I never asked) is/was a freak.

You know, as hardware and software continually evolves, telemetry provides valuable information. If you use Facebook, I'm going to laugh out loud at you.

What windows needs to stop doing is upgrading people without their permission. I'm on 1607 enterprise and I've tried both 1703 and 1709 which had huge stuttering and fps issues with games. I've been holding off until the next big update where Microsoft hopefully fixes it. Just today I noticed a 1709 update being installed without asking me. I quickly cut the internet, forced windows update to stop, cleared out the downloaded files and ran wushowhide to block the update. I'm just glad I noticed before Microsoft stealth installed it.

You? Laugh at me? I use Facebook. My latest aspiration is getting Pantera to reunite so I can honor Dime and metal itself, properly. I have a public presence. You do know that you can put or not put what you like on there, correct? The concept of controlling your own information fails you?

"Within two to three years of Windows 10's release, there will be 1 billion devices running Windows 10," Terry Myerson, Microsoft's vice president of operating systems, said Wednesday during the keynote presentation at the company's annual Build developer conference in San Francisco."
lol. Anyway, I'm sure they hit the upgrade plateau a long time ago and aren't benefiting much by leaving it free. I do expect them to do something when 7 hits EOL in January 2020, let's see. Easiest way to get people to upgrade would've been making something people find desirable.
For the adware stuff, I don't use the store or uwp apps and set the telemetry to security. They don't seem to be using telemetry/feedback to actually improve windows much as it seems like all their development time goes into the UWP side of things, so I don't feel bad at all
