Microsoft confirms Windows 7 family pack

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 07/22/2009 10:07 AM | source: | 0 comment(s)

Microsoft on Tuesday confirmed plans to offer a family pack for its upcoming Windows 7 operating system, according to company blogger Brandon LeBlanc. The bundle serves as a better option for homes with several computers. Customers will be provided with three licenses for Windows 7 Home Premium. The company is also ready to offer release to manufacturing (RTM) downloads for developers with MSDN subscriptions.

Although the Windows blog did not provide specific pricing information for the family pack, several online retailers accidentally slipped the product code into their public inventories earlier this month. Expercom listed the package with a price of $137, although the product code was quickly removed.

Windows 7 is scheduled to begin shipping on new PCs beginning October 22nd, while pre-orders will be delivered around the same time. The company will be competing with Apple's Snow Leopard operating system due for release in September. The Mac OS X upgrades will carry a price of $29 for a single license, or $49 for a family pack.
