Owners of the Xbox Series X and S, as well as TVs that support Dolby Vision, will be able to play games in Dolby Vision. According to Microsoft, over a hundred games have already been optimized, with many more to come in the coming months and years.

According to Microsoft, more than a hundred "next-gen titles" are already or will be accessible in Dolby Vision in the near future. HDR games have used the HDR10 standard up to now. Dolby Vision has the advantage of supporting dynamic information, which could result in a more believable high dynamic range effect (HDR). It is necessary for games to be optimized in order to take full use of this. It is possible for developers to do so within the game itself or through the Xbox SDKs. That refers to automatic enhancements rather than actual modifications to the games themselves.

It is true that Dolby Vision does not work in 120Hz mode on all televisions; however, Microsoft and Dolby have stated that they are working with television makers to make this possible through firmware updates. LG has already published software updates for its OLED televisions from the model years 2020 and 2021, among others.

For the time being, Dolby Vision is only available for gaming on Xbox Series consoles. It is currently unknown whether the High Dynamic Range (HDR) standard will be used in the PlayStation 5 games. Microsoft has withdrawn an earlier statement about Xbox systems having two years of exclusivity for two years. That would be founded on a logical fallacy. Microsoft highlights that the Xbox is the first system to incorporate Dolby Vision technology into its gaming titles.
