Crucial introduced a NVMe M.2 form factor SSD series. The Crucial P5 SSD is the most powerful model of Micronto date and is designed to read data at up to 3,400 MB/s and write at up to 3,000 MB/s.

The P5 series offers 250 GB, 500 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB storage space, depending on the model. The 250 GB model writes data at a maximum of 1,400 MB/s, while the sequential transfer rates should be identical for the rest of the portfolio. In addition, the maximum write performance only applies to data in the pseudo SLC cache, which Crucial calls "Dynamic Write Acceleration", since its size is dynamically adapted to the free space on the data carrier, as is the case with various other Crucial SSDs. No information is handed out about the controller and NAND flash layers. It is writing TLC though.

“The Crucial P5 is our fastest and most innovative SSD product to date, pushing the capabilities of NVMe Gen 3 to meet the demands of a rapidly growing market,” said Teresa Kelley, vice president of Micron Consumer Products Group. “PC and gaming enthusiasts will find that the P5 was built to answer their call for high performance and processing power.”

For gamers who want battle-ready PCs and on-the-go professionals who demand laptops that work as hard as they do, the P5 is built to be reliable. Dynamic write acceleration, error correction algorithms and adaptive thermal protection work together to optimize performance and durability. Crucial SSDs also undergo thousands of validation hours and dozens of qualification tests. The P5’s endurance is rated at MTTF greater than two million hours for extended longevity. Data security is also enhanced with rapid, full-drive encryption capability, helping to protect data from security threats without performance degradation. The products are backed by a 5-year warranty. Pricing is TBA.
