Micron Technology is adding a new facility to its existing 12-inch wafer plant for the manufacture of NAND flash memory in Singapore. The new facility is expected to come online by the end of 2019.

Micron recently broke ground on the new 165,000 square-meter facility adjacent to its existing NAND flash manufacturing complex in Singapore, with the construction scheduled to complete around the middle of 2019. The new facility is expected to roll out its first batch of wafers in the fourth quarter of 2019, according to local media reports in Singapore, says digitimes.

Micron's 12-inch NAND flash plant in Singapore was established in 2007 as part of the JV fabs between the company and Intel, but Intel has already sold its stake in the Singapore fab to Micron.

Micron is also looking to expand its total R&D workforce stationed in Singapore to over 10,000 employees from the current 7,500, according to the reports.Micron also has one 8-inch fab for NOR flash production in Singapore. The fab was formerly owned by Numonyx, which Micron acquired in 2010.
