Mad Catz Ships of the R.A.T.AIR Optical Gaming Mouse
Mad Catz announced the shipping of their most advanced wireless mouse yet, the R.A.T.AIR. A flagship innovation in the evolution of the R.A.T. range, the R.A.T.AIR offers uncompromising wireless gameplay, thanks to cutting-edge electrical capacitor technology meaning no lag, no batteries and peerless performance.
Available to purchase today across select European territories, the R.A.T.AIR offers the ultimate solution for casual and competitive gamers alike. Comprised of two individual components, the R.A.T.AIR ships with the mouse itself as well as the innovative Activation Board. Plugging into the gamers’ PC via USB, the Activation Board provides constant power to the mouse itself wirelessly, using best-in-class capacitor technology. Allowing the mouse to operate with no need for batteries, the Activision Board is so powerful, that the R.A.T.AIR even remains powered for a limited amount of time when lifted from the board itself, crucial for those who value ‘lift-off’ play. For those who steadfastly demand a wired connection, gamers can quickly unplug the connection to the Activation Board and directly connect the mouse to wired USB, offering a hybrid solution for all.
Weighing in at just 100g, fast movement with the R.A.T.AIR is almost effortless as breakout force is reduced to optimize split-second reflexes, while the OMRON switches used on the mouse have been tested to an impressive 20 million clicks, for reliable operation during the most heated of gaming battles. In addition, the R.A.T.AIR features a powerful 12000 DPI optical sensor which can be precisely calibrated in X, Y and Z axes to suit the exact requirements of any game. The lift-off height is fully programmable to millimetre precision, designed to give gamers the winning edge.
A hallmark of the R.A.T. range, the R.A.T.AIR features the unique Precision Aim button, allowing gamers to slow down DPI at the touch of a button, perfect for steadying nerves in sniper mode or simply program as you wish to re-load with speed. With a further 9 programmable buttons and 4 separate gamer profile modes, the R.A.T.AIR provides dizzying customization with up to 40 individual commands available on hand.
Mad Catz’ drag-and-drop F.L.U.X. software enables gamers to endlessly customize profiles, but the customization does not stop there, as gamers can also personalize how the R.A.T.AIR feels in the palm of their hand. The R.A.T.AIR features an adjustable Palm Rest with three different length settings to suit gamers’ hand and grip and both the R.A.T.AIR and its accompanying Activation Board are styled with state-of-the-art Chameleon RGB lighting, bathing gamers’ set ups with a choice of quality lighting effects that bring the R.A.T.AIR to life. The R.A.T.AIR is available via leading European retailers.

never said the combo is cheaper, but the rat cant be used standalone.
e.g they force you to buy both, logitech doesnt.
not even talking about taking the mouse somewhere else, and/or use it without pad/cord.
The article states that it comes with the pad and can be used as a corded mouse.

Please read my post again:
and/or use it without pad/cord.
E.g. I can take any other mouse for 10$ if i want a cord, or have a wireless for 25$ and up, both times no pad i have to carry around.

Reading your comments, it seem the durability of these devices is lower due to the many adjustable moving parts.
