Logitech Harmony Touch Remote Released

Logitech Harmony Touch Remote Released

Logitech launches its Harmony Touch, a universal remote with a 2.4" touchscreen. This $250 model is limited to IR, it doesn't support RF like the somewhat older Harmony 900, which can already be found for less than the Harmony Touch's MSRP. The Logitech Harmony Touch is a new remote control that greatly simplifies the complex designs found in previous Harmony remotes. It's still a combination of physical buttons and a 2.4-inch color LCD touch screen, but the buttons are larger and fewer in number and the screen takes a more center position on the remote.

The high price of this new remote kinda makes me wonder how many units Logitech is hoping to sell, at $250 this device is significantly more expensive than a basic Android phone, and roughly a third to half the cost of a decent mainstream TV.
Good news Harmony fans! Today we’re proud to introduce the newest in our Harmony® remote lineup, the Logitech Harmony® Touch.

Touch-screens have changed the way we interact with technology, and today’s home entertainment calls for interaction that goes beyond the standard remote control. In response, we’ve rethought the remote, keeping what you love while elevating the touch experience and personalization.

The Logitech Harmony Touch combines luxury and convenience, giving you ultimate control over your entire home-entertainment system. It features a simple, streamlined design and a touch-screen that lets you smoothly swipe and tap your way to your favorite entertainment options, including one-touch activities such as “Watch TV” and “Listen to Music.” Channel icons and numbers for your favorite networks are automatically provided based on your location and TV service provider, and you can add, remove and organize your favorites right on the remote. You can also edit your activity settings, such as inputs and delays, as well as the order of your activities and commands on the remote screen.

We’ve also updated MyHarmony.com, so current Harmony remote owners can use their existing MyHarmony.com account, along with the device and activity settings from their current Harmony remote when they set up their new Harmony Touch.

Beyond its convenience and intuitive navigation, this remote looks as good as it feels with a streamlined button layout and sculpted shape. It’s rechargeable so you don’t have to worry about running low on power and the charging station keeps the remote always within arm’s reach.

The Logitech Harmony Touch is compatible with 225,000 devices and 5,000 different brands, and it can control up to 15 different devices.

Logitech must run the Harmony division simply based on what looks cool rather than what works. All of these touch screen remotes are worthless because you can't use them without looking at them. I don't want to stare at a remote touch screen while trying to point it at my devices. Guess I'll have to milk my Harmony 550 for all it's worth and hope the eventually come out with a remote that is actually useful again.

Honestly I feel like Logitech as a whole has been going downhill since the Revue fiasco. Seemed like back then they were much more willing to take risks and create cool and well designed gadgets. Post Revue Logitech seems to just play it safe. The Harmony One sold well so they'll do a slight redesign and re-release.

I like old Logitech better. Sure the Revue failed and they lost a lot of money, but that was hardly because it was a bad product - it was mainly due to how bad Google TV support was at launch.

I tend to agree. I must just be out in left field though, I bought a Harmony One and used it for about 2 weeks and absolutely hated it and went back to my significantly cheaper Harmony 550 simply because you can't point the One at the TV and then press a button because the buttons aren't buttons, it's a touchscreen. It's like trying to operate your phone without looking at it.

Yeah I dunno, I was forced into the H900 because I needed the RF for my wood furniture. I've been less than happy with it overall, the screen doesn't bother me much, but I've had to replace the battery 4 times in 2 years due to it swelling - build quality is also pretty shoddy overall. I guess it does the job though.
