LG rolls out Dolby Vision 120Hz update for 2021 OLED TVs

LG rolls out Dolby Vision 120Hz update for 2021 OLED TVs

And with that said, the 2020 models will follow as well. The update will come later to 2020 OLED and possibly more models.

As promised, LG is bringing enhanced Dolby Vision gaming support to its OLED TVs in preparation for the launch of Dolby Vision games on Xbox. LG Korea stated that starting tomorrow, June 23, it will start a gradual rollout of firmware version 3.15.27 for the C1 and G1 2021 OLED models. The update will enable the TVs to receive and process Dolby Vision signals at up to 4K 120Hz. The firmware will also include new color options (purple, orange, green) for the Game Optimizer menu, a new Game Dashboard menu at the bottom of the screen, webOS 6.0 performance optimizations, and new Gallery features. In addition, C1 and G1 owners will no longer have to manually switch between having AMD FreeSync and Dolby Vision enabled. Following the update, you can have both enabled at the same time. The company added that it will soon, hopefully within a month, make similar firmware available in beta for some of the other 2021 models. A full list of models was not provided. Customers can contact their local LG office if they want the beta firmware before the public release.

LG Korea confirmed that support for Dolby Vision at 4K 120Hz is also coming to the CX and GX OLED models as well as some other 2020 models. This firmware is currently in testing. The company said that it expects to have beta firmware available for 2020 models before Dolby Vision games are made available on Xbox. Microsoft has not announced a launch date for Dolby Vision gaming. Lastly, LG said that it is "looking into" the possibility of supporting Dolby Vision at 4K 120Hz on 2019 models such as C9.

You are one of those who live by specs. I won't buy this. I have all 4 types of screens. IPS>VA>OLED>TN for colors. Unless I am confused by a type of oversaturation I don't know.

Accuracy =/= what you like.

Maybe you like more saturated colors, which is fine for a common consumer, but not so much for a professional.

Colors are meh IMHO. Bland. OLED loses to IPS/VA on this aspect to my eyes. Unless I'm brain damaged. But I agree with you it has the ultimate speed on its operations and image accuracy.

While my Asus ROG Swift IPS panel is only 27" and the colors are fantastic, my CX OLED colors are anything but "meh". The OLED beats the IPS all day long.

I don't watch based on specs, it's what I'm actually seeing.

Have a Hisense U8G on the way, can't wait to see how that one stacks up considering the lower cost.

I watched Vincent Teoh talking about this on his YouTube channel HDTVtest.

AMD Freesync with Dolby Vision 120Hz, a new gaming overlay. He said the CX owners should get this after the C1 rollout. C9 uses a different chipset to obtain 48GBPS so it would require being reworked. LG has so far delivered on the C9/B9 TV's in terms of features, so it remains to be seen if these TV's will get this feature, fingers crossed!

Also the general smoothness of the TV menu in this update is something that needs to come to the CX/C9!

I watched Vincent earlier today also. I truly hope LG takes care of us C9 owners. I do have a 48" CX but my larger televisions are C9's. LG already shortchanged the C9 with AMD Freesync. Many AMD card users are utilizing the CRU mod for Freesync but honestly they shouldn't have to. The LGC9 is more than capable. Not too long ago many people preferred the C9 over the CX.

As for Dolby Vision gaming I hope LG can figure it out for the C9. Sometimes I like to game on my larger televisions. I dislike this current trend of buying premium products and being cast aside after 1-2 years.

I have IPS on my desk and an OLED TV next to it. The TV beats the (hardware calibrated) screen any day.
