LG 32UK550 is an affordable 499 EUR 4K monitor with DCI-P3, HDR10 and FreeSync

LG in Japan is releasing a new monitor that hopefully make it towards western countries soon as well. The reason why would be that this is a 32" Ultra HD screen that supports 10-bit HDR10, DCI-P3 and Freesync, this VA panel based monitor would cost only 500 EUR/USD.

I specifically make mention of this monitor as it'll offer 10 bit, HDR10. At least it's advertised like that, so we assume here it isn't 8 bit+frc. The color gamut is also very respectable at 95% of the DCI-P3 color space (the color space that the film industry uses) and 100% of the sRGB. The VN based panel is only 60 Hz with a rated 4 ms response time though and would offer a brightness of 300 cd/m2, that's listed as SDR. HDR was not yet listed in the specs. The contrast ratio is 3000:1. The panel also offers variable refresh rate support (FreeSync) at 40 to 60 Hz. If you examine the photos you will spot two HDMI 2.0a ports and a single display port 1.2 input. The foot of the monitor is semi-circular and allows you to modify the height up to 110 mm, and in addition, the panel can be tilted between -5º and 20º.

Audio wise it has 5-watt speakers as well as a 3.5 mm port for input. I cannot spot any USB ports. The product it to sell in Japan for 55,000 yen. Converted and with VAT added that is give or take 500 euros depending on your region. Electronics in Japan are often more expensive overall though.

Affordable? My ass is affordable. Thats almost a whole Portuguese salary for a stupid monitor. Sure it delivers goddies for the price but thats not cheap. Im so sick of the hypocrisy of the rich western societies; lots of people on the other side of the planet making a buck or two a day to go eat some rice and vegetables and you guys calling a 500€ monitor affordable. Anyway im just grumpy because im poor.

Nothing special about this monitor. Might as well just hook up a 4K LG tv since it’s only going to run @ 60hz. Then switch to Game Mode to cut down the input lag.

Looks exactly like the LG 27UK600 only difference is the Panel (IPS). Not a bad choice if they also offer a 27" version of the VA panel for console gamers.

It's more expensive than a TV set from LG with same size and performance (and Asus do a better monitor with same perf for 50 Euro less)...
So why chose this one?

*edit* Samsung, Iiyama and Acer are at 399 Euro for same product right now...
