Kioxia preps XG7 / XG7-P series with PCIe4.0 (x4) connection

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/10/2020 09:50 AM | source: | 1 comment(s)
Kioxia preps XG7 / XG7-P series with PCIe4.0 (x4) connection

The product lineup consists of two series, "XG7" and "XG7-P" , with capacities of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB for the former and 2TB and 4TB for the latter.

By supporting PCI-Express4.0 connection, sequential reading is about twice as fast and sequential writing is about 1.6 times faster than the conventional model "XG6" series. In addition, it supports new functions of NVMe 1.4 and SMBus, and can monitor the operating status such as SSD temperature from the host device side and set conditions for SSD to operate with high performance.

The NAND flash is Kioxia's 3D flash memory "BiCS FLASH", and the controller also uses an in-house original IC. The form factor is M.2 2280 and the security features are compatible with TCG Pyrite 2.01 and TCG Opan 2.01 (optional).

When they'll become available and with what specs and price remain to be announced.

I wonder if this was the first Kioxia product announcement article where Hilbert trusted that readers already remember it's formerly Toshiba. If so, pretty good timing. I've finally memorised it.
