Disk performance issues have plagued Windows 11 since last summer, when it was only available to Insider testers. Unfortunately, these issues persisted in the new OS's launch version, which was released in early October 2021.

Since then, Microsoft has claimed to have rectified the Windows 11 disk performance issues. Following last week's Windows 11 KB5008353 update, it appears disk performance issues have been permanently rectified.

Early in January, KB5008353 improved the performance of PC fixed storage devices in Windows 11. According to Microsoft's release notes, the current patch appears to have remedied the issue with poor storage performance. According to Windows Latest, some consumers have reported that storage devices in Windows 11 now function as well as in Windows 10. The findings appear to apply to a wide range of devices, from SATA to M.2 NVMe SSDs.

That Microsoft has corrected the Windows 11 storage performance issue again is disappointing, as we revealed last December that Microsoft had resolved a similar issue after several months. In KB5008353, a December fix was applied to the "USN journal," which sounds same or quite similar. We stated at the time that this fix increased random writing speeds. The December fix appears to have only worked on a subset of affected devices.
