How does that sound? A Raptor Lake CPU with a default speed of 6GHz. Intel also claims that it has achieved a new overclocking record of 8GHz. It is uncertain which Raptor Lake CPU will offer a 6GHz boost frequency or when it will be available.

At the Intel Technology Tour 2022, Intel claimed that a Raptor Lake model could reach 6GHz in its basic configuration. The assertion was projected onto a slide at Tom's Hardware. This is likely the maximum feasible turbo frequency. The Core i9-12900KS is Intel's current top-of-the-line CPU, with a single-core clock speed of up to 5.5 GHz. Which Raptor Lake CPU will be able to take use of the 6GHz boost clock is still unknown. According to prior rumors, the Core i9-13900boost K's clock will hit 5.8GHz. Probably, this is also a KS model, although this is not proven.

In particular, Intel has not revealed which product will reach that top speed of 6 GHz, 300 MHz higher than the 5.7 GHz of AMD's Ryzen 7000 CPUs. In addition, it is unclear if a 6GHz CPU will be part of the first shipment or whether it will be a limited-edition KS variant. Intel also stated that Raptor Lake will have a '40% performance scaling' compared to Alder Lake, with a 15% increase in single-threaded performance and a 41% increase in multi-threaded performance as evaluated by SPECintrate 2017.

The final item in the chronology details the world record 8 GHz clock speed as well as stock clocks that reach 6 GHz. Starting with the 8088 in 1979 (here's a look back), the Israel Development Center (IDC) has been the driving force behind the creation of many successful Intel devices. This family tree extends all the way up to the present day and includes such household names as Pentium MXX, Banias, Sandy Bridge, and many more. We don't know whether 8 GHz is the new global record or just a record for Intel's 10nm devices, but the firm has teased that the chip can reach 6 GHz at peak running rates at stock. While we are familiar with the most of the technical specifications, we are curious about the cost and power requirements.

Update: Intel just confirmed an all-core 6 GHz SKU at Intel Innovation 2022 Day. It'll be released early next year. See below.
