Intels Skylake-SP Xeon-processors will get metal based names

So if you read the topic title and go huh? Yeah, it’s exactly as written. The upcoming and to be announced Skylake-SP Xeon-processors will be names after metals like Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.

The Xeon SKUs are always segmented into a numeric schema, like the E5-2640 v5. Starting with the 8000 series the 22 to 28 core models will be the flagship products, these will be the Xeon Platinum series.  The 14 to 22 core parts 5000 and 6000 series will be the gold models.  The 4000 series on their end will get 10 cores, will be the Silver series.

Last but not least, the 3000 series with less than 10 CPU cores will be the Bronze line. The new processors will be based on a new socket (Yes intel LOVES new sockets) called LGA 3647.

A user on the Anandtech  forums also posted the new lineup and specs on these processors. It is unclear yet when Intel will announce the new Xeon processors. Sources Sweepr (AnandTech Forum), ComputerBase, HWI.

Errrm,again TDP 140W+???

Where is low power consumption on the server side?
For .gov side will be ok this TDP 140W+,but for some corporations Not.

After apperance of Amd SoC Naples these Skylake-SP will be obsolete.

?

Xeon has multiple product lines.. there are 13w Xeon processors. They cover the entire range of TDP, the stuff post here is the top of the range. Naples scales from 35w to 180w and we have no idea how the performance compares. Also both companies calculate TDP's differently so its not like it directly comparable anyway.
