Intel Z399 the new successor of X299?
PBC heard from a PC manufacturer that the successor of the X299 chipset is going to be called Z399, a chipset used for the followup to Skylake-X. And yeah, that naming does conflict a little with AMD chipsets lately eh?
The news was posted by pcbuildersclub today who mentioned that a major computer manufacturer has given them info on what Intel is going to call the successor to X299. Since X399 clashes with X399 fro AMD Threadripper), it would be called Z399.
The new chipset is allegedly ready for production. It is intended for the successor of Intel’s HEDT division. However, this is not Cascade Lake-X yet, it is just a Skylake-X refresh. This generation will not come with 28 cores yet, only with up to 22 cores. These 22 core processors still fit in Intel’s LGA 2066 socket. it is rumored that Z399 and the Skylake-X-Refresh are scheduled to be launched this autumn. Probably even October is the date for the launch. Which features the Z399 chipset or the Skylake-X refresh will include is still unknown. Only the core count of 22 cores is known. This is Intel’s first reaction to AMD’s 32-core Threadripper 2990WX. A real competitor, though, will only be the 28-core of the Cascade Lake X series, which is scheduled to start in 2019.

or simply put.. They dont see any need for 22+ cores.. Only AMD making them because it sounds ridiculous - which it is - so they get free advertising in many forums because AMD fanboys talk so loudly about it. But who uses it. Sure.. there are a few in between with us in these forums.. but in reality we are only a little part of the overall customer base.

Another chipset??? I thought the X299 was supposed to last 2 or 3 generations... Intel is creating a giant mess with the continuous release of unnecessary chipsets just for the sake of money... And aggravating their customers in the process, me included...
