Intel Xeon E7 Bridge-Ex CPUs

Published by

As most of you guys know, Intel launched Xeon-E5 ‘Ivy Bridge-EP’ chips with 2 sockets platform design back in October last year, but there was no sign of high-end Intel Xeon-E7 ‘Ivy Bridge-EX’ parts. Courtesy to CPU-World, we now have more details on the high-end server platform.

The upcoming Intel Xeon-E7 parts will be high-end server parts and feature 4-way and 8-way socket configuration for high performance and denser servers. The new Xeon-E7 parts will also include the highly rumoured Intel E7 ‘Ivytown’ chip. Highlight features on the platform includes 12TB memory support in 8S server configurations (three times than the last generation Westmere-EX processors), ECC DDR3-1600 and DDR3-2133/2400/3200 and a new Quick Path v1.1 interface. The Xeon E7 family will be enabled for 8 socket and plus solutions for the enterprise market, and would boast 15 cores and 30 thread chips. The Xeon E7 family will have up to 50% more cores and 25% more cache than the Westmere-EX platform and will be based on the C600 Series chipset.

As far as the SKUs are concerned, they are split into three categories - Xeon E7-8800 V2, E7-4800 V2 and E7-2800 V2. The Xeon E7-8800 V2 tier are the top dogs, and pack 8 socket parts, the family will contain eight models. Among them is the Xeon E7-8890 V2 chip, better known to us as the ‘Ivytown’ chip. It will feature 15 cores and 30 threads, coupled with 37.5 MB L3 cache and a TDP of 155 Watts. The chip as a relatively toned down base clock frequency of 2.8GHz. The chip is expected to cost well over $5000.

Moving on, the Xeon E7-4800 V2 and E7-2800 V2 are 4 socket and 2 socket compatible respectively. The Xeon E7-4800 V2 and E7-2800 V2 have a diverse range of SKUs that are detailed in the table below.
