Intel Xe graphics card spotted in benchmark database (no benchmarks though).

Intel Xe graphics card spotted in benchmark database (no benchmarks though).

By 2020 Intel's first graphics cards based on the Xe architecture will be released. The first test phase has already been completed, as Intels Robert "Bob" H. Swan mentioned in a statement after the announcement of the quarterly results in late October - it was an "important milestone ."

Now all of the sudden an entry in the benchmark database of GFXBench is spotted. There, a device named "Graphics gfx-driver-user-feature_dg1_poweron-27723 DCH ReleaseInternal" listed. The abbreviation "dg1" stands for Discrete Graphics 1 and has long been associated with Intel's Xe architecture. The latest discovery was made by the @KOMACHI.

No real benchmark was performed or the results have been restricted from viewing neither will; you be able to read out specs, but only a so-called power-on test - the card was put into operation. Instead of detailed results you will find only "N/A" (not available). But this at least proves the functionality of the GPU and the device drivers. Rumors assume up to 512 EUs (execution units) for Xe, which should be about the same as the performance of a Geforce RTX 2080. Xe graphics cards are expected somehwere in the middle of 2020 at the earliest.

If price will be spot on, Intel can make a real dent in the market. They have all the money in the world to realize this - I only hope for a solid execution.

I think the execution will be fine on the hardware side, also I cannot imagine Intel having drivers as poor as AMD sometimes have. As AMD Navi has not really put pricing pressure on nvidia ( they just upped the peformance with Super series) perhaps Intel can put price pressure on.

What process are these XE graphics cards running on, is it 10nm? I seem to recall it is. Does that mean it will be cheap or expensive considering Intels known 14nm supply issues. I am a bear of very little brain in this respect.

1. You mean AMD and NV probably? NV released a WHQL certified driver about 1,5 year ago which led to Watch Dogs 2 crashing or not being able to be launched. Or you can list the WHQL drivers that led to Chrome video play anomalies.
2. AMD launched two cards. One is $350 and is as fast as the $400 2060S. The other is $400 and only 9% slower than the $500 2070S (with old games added, in newer games its more or less equal in average).
3. We are talking about INTEL. :D You know, the company which is still releasing significantly more expensive CPUs than AMD while they perform worse or equal at best.

Weren't they running Samsung 7 nm or something like that? (I may be totally clueless on this one)

Why wouldn't they? They have the ex-AMD Koduri at the helm.

That being said, I've historically had as few problems with both Nvidia and AMD drivers. All in all not too many with either. But maybe I'd Nvidia card(s) during AMD's worst years since I'd seen people complaining about AMD drivers back in the day. Still, some people even today say they don't want AMD because many years ago the drivers weren't the best. Those people must live difficult lives with a kilometer long list of companies they boycott because once in a blue moon 20 years ago they weren't satisfied with a certain product from a certain company.
