I'm pretty sure AMD saw this coming when they launched their little joke campaign. But what does it matter? It was still funny, and I admit Intel's reply is funny as well.
Over the years, in various places in the internets, I've posted plenty of humorous comments with an obvious loophole for a smart reply, precisely hoping someone would use the opportunity to make the joke last longer. Sometimes it has happened, sometimes not. It most certainly doesn't mean I'd have failed in either case.

A measured response from Intel but AMD were hardly suggesting they wanted an 8086K CPU with their comment:
Intel have forgotten how to compete...their 28-core overclocking shenanigans only emphasise this.
Buildzoid suggested this chip would probably do 4.2-4.3GHz overclocked on air.

We appreciate the advancements they’ve helped drive with the x86 architecture over the last four decades. But, we’re ready to take it from here.

Oh sorry, we were so excited during the demo that we forgot to mention the CPU was overclocked...or that it was using a heavily modified aquarium chiller to cool it.
