Intel Releases Core i9 9980XE processor

Intel just unleashed its Core i9 9980XE processor, an 18-core CPU that can be seated onto socket 2066 and yes, it can be used on existing X299 motherboards. The processor gets a suggested retail price of 1979 US dollars.

Core i9 9980XE is Skylake-X family and thus a refresh processor that holds faster base and turbo clock frequencies. The base clock for the 9980XE is 3 GHz, which is substantially higher than its predecessor (400 MHz). The maximum single-core turbo clock speed is listed to be 4.5 GHz, 100 MHz higher than the 7980XE. The all-core turbo of the 9980XE is unknown but from what we are reading seems to be 3.8 GHz.

The Core i9 9980XE with 18 cores and 36 threads will sell for 1979 dollars, excl VAT.  We hope to review the proc soon, but that is totally at the liberty of Intel, of course.

Was thinking about getting the i7 9800X as its base clock, enough cores for gaming, extra pci-e lanes and is decent at its price of $589. But low and behold, retailers are already price gouging and selling it for £699 in the uk...

Lets be honest, there is competition trough AMD fanboy eyes only, Intel cant sustain the demand, just before 9 series release 8700K was sold 100+ EUROS more then retail price, Intel cant make enough CPUs for everyone and AMD fanboys talk about competition.
I pre-ordered 9900K on amazon US the day they had the listing, weeks before the release and one month after it was still not shipped so i had to cancel, but only because we have Tons of them locally .
Last time Intel had real competition was during late P3 and P4 era with Athlon, I remember how they were lowering the prices, not now thou.
Intel can't sustain demand? Sure. But do you know why? Because they sold most of their production capacity to other companies. So intel is making modems and other chips not designed by themselves. (Every such functional chip is therefore guaranteed to be paid and there is no risk.)
In other words: "They are not pressured to release newer products because they can close their CPU division for few years and their finances will not even notice as they can use remaining capacity to make products for someone else."
