Intel publishes early build of Android 4.2.2 for x86

Intel publishes early build of Android 4.2.2 for x86

Intel has released an early build of the x86 version of Android 4.2.2. The release is intended solely for developers, Intel states on its website that the current build doesn't even meet its alpha release requirements, it's buggy and not highly optimized.
Intel does substantial work on Android to enable the mobile operating system to take advantage of its Atom processor and, like Google, it releases distributions under the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

...

Intel said that with Android 4.2.2, Android on Intel chips will only boot under UEFI mode and it told developers that it does not support dual booting with legacy BIOS installations, though it will allow dual-boot on devices running Windows 8. The firm said that the command line interface for the installer is "pretty crude", but also said it will be improved within the coming weeks.
At present, it's unknown when Android 4.2.2 will reach production release status for the x86 platform.

Major Changes:

    * UEFI Boot (legacy BIOS booting no longer supported)
    * Android 4.2.2
    * Linux 3.8.0 kernel
    * Interactive Installer / Win8 Dual-Boot
    * Gummiboot boot loader (SYSLINUX no longer supported)
    * Mesa rebased onto freedesktop upstream
    * Signed kernel modules
    * Unified Installer for all platforms except Samsung xe700t

At least the Linux kernel for x86 is newer than the Android 4.2.2 kernel for Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoCs. They're still stuck with 3.4.0 while the Intel build is updated at 3.8.0.

Looks like they only published img, that means they are meant for use using fastboot to flash to the hardware directly, it doesn't seem there's a way to boot these into VMs.
