Intel Introduces 545s SATA-SSD with 64-layer 3D NAND

Intel today ahs released the 545s SATA SSD series, the new thing about it is that is has all new 64-layer 3D (vertically stacked) NAND. The 545s series replaces the 540s series.

The new model 545s is using Hynix 16nm TLC NAND and Intel makes use of a  Silicon Motion SM2258 controller. Considering SATA3 is the biggest bottleneck these days, the performance of the series is close to the same as any modern SSD in that 500 MB/sec range.

At this very moment the 545s is only available in a 512GB volume version, but it is expected that Intel will release models ranging fron 128GB up-towards 2 TB as 64-layer NAND definitely increases storage capacity. The 512GB model will cost 179 USD, similar to the Samsung 850EVO.
