Intel HEDT Cascade Lake-X Procs Have 10-core or more cores - Core i9 10900X Geekbenched

Intel in the next quarter will release a new series of high-end desktop (HEDT) processors, these are called Cascade Lake-X processors which we have discussed a number of times already. More info has now leaked included a geekbench score of the 10-core part.
The first entry would be a core-based Core i9-10900X, with 20 threads this processor is tied towards a quad-channel DDR4 memory interface. The proc has a base clock frequency of 3.70 GHz. The chip keeps the underlying last-gen architecture based on "Skylake-X,". It has 1 MB of dedicated L2 cache per core, and 19.3 MB of shared L3 cache.
A Geekbench tests shows the part to perform roughly similar to an i9-9900X and being 200 MHz faster you will likely see a small bump in performance. With everything AMD Ryzen going on, Intel is expected to price new HEDT processors competitively. Let's hope the accompanying motherboard/chipsets won't have to make up for that difference.
| SKU | Cores / Threads | Clock / turbo (max) | 1T Turbo | TDP | USD |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Core i9-10980XE | 18/36? | TBA | TBA | TBA | TBA |
| Core i9-9980XE | 18/36 | 3.0 / 4.4 GHz | 4.5 GHz | 165 W | $ 1,979 |
| Core i9-9960X | 16/32 | 3.1 / 4.4 GHz | 4.5 GHz | 165 W | $ 1,684 |
| Core i9-10940X | 14/28? | TBA | TBA | TBA | TBA |
| Core i9-9940X | 14/28 | 3.3 / 4.4 GHz | 4.5 GHz | 165 W | $ 1,387 |
| Core i9-10920X | 12/24? | TBA | TBA | TBA | TBA |
| Core i9-9920X | 12/24 | 3.5 / 4.4 GHz | 4.5 GHz | 165 W | $ 1,189 |
| Core i9-10900X | 10/20 | 3.7 / 4.6 GHz | 4.7 GHz | 165 W | TBA |
| Core i9-9900X | 10/20 | 3.5 / 4.4 GHz | 4.5 GHz | 165 W | $ 989 |
| Core i9-9820X | 10/20 | 3.3 / 4.1 GHz | 4.2 GHz | 165 W | $ 889 |
| Core i7-9800X | 8.16 | 3.8 / 4.4 GHz | 4.5 GHz | 165 W | $ 589 |
The 10000 series, with up to 18 cores, is based on Cascade Lake-X, which is a derivative Skylake-X at 14nm process. Intel will also be bumping up default memory frequency support towards DDR4-2933. Btw baffling to see it is again a Geekbench leak.

Empowering Creators says Intel.
Empoverish Creators is a more suited slogan, closer to reality.
I find odd that a 10 core HEDT CPU only has so little L3 cache shared between cores.
Let's wait and see what price Intel will ask for it.

Competition is good, from all sides. Will be interesting to see how 'competitive' they'll be with pricing.

10c for 1000€+ nice Intel.

As expected, Intel empoverishes creators, not empowering them.

It does seem a bit on the paltry side, doesn't it?

meh to HEDT, i5 and downwards only here :p

At 1MB per core, it has a sizable L2 cache though, which Intel probably believes results in better performance then offering less L2 and more L3 (like AMD currently does).

I don't really expect such a thing. It's Intel. I imagine they will charge a lot, relying on the loyal customers to buy enough to make money due to the large profit margin, not numbers. In fact that might even be wise for Intel considering their production lines are stressed by running at 100% capacity as it is.

I have this information almost a month old. The lowest core count on new Cascade Lake X is 10/20 starting at $400. Intel will offer two extra cores at each price point AMD CPU is in. If you already have socket 2066, it could not be better for you. You will get more cores than AMD offers for same amount of money in other words beat this AMD. AMD cannot go any more lower with price cause they would have no margin.

10/20 in Intel's HEDT for $400? Sorry bud, you info sounds unbelieavable. Not even the 9900k costs that, even after Zen 2 launched.
Still, this would compete with threadripper 3000, which we still know almost nothing about. I'd say if you're in the market for this kind of PC, wait until that is announced.

You have it precisely backwards - AMD's modular design allows for superior margins compared to Intel's monolithic design, especially as core counts go up. The cost of creating four 8-core chips is a lot less than creating one 28-core chip so AMD has a massive advantage in the HEDT and server space.

As I said 10/20 Cascade Lake X is $400. Ryzen on AM4 can only be offered in 8/12/16 variants due its design. Intel is going to offer extra two cores for the same price and there won't be 16 core part Cascade Lake X - 10/12/14/18 against 8/12/16. AMD design doesn't allow superior margins. AMD cannot sell their 12/24 part any cheaper, they won't make any money on it. Intel is going to offer 14/28 for same amount of money AMD sells their 12/24.
I have all the prices for a month now.

Rumor is 175+ watt TDP

LOL, Intel's TDPs aren't even real to begin with. Their TDPs are based on the lowest clock without any boost working whatsoever. "175 watts" coming from Intel probably means 250+ in a good scenario.

Ah, finally.
