Intel Haswell refresh might be pushed forwards

Intel has postponed their 14nm Broadwell processors to Q4 2014 however the Haswell Refresh platform will now arrive in April, one month earlier than expected. The Haswell Refresh is expected to feature more than 20 new processors.

Intel originally planned to launch Haswell Refresh and 9-series chipsets in May but has changed its plans to launch the CPUs in April, according to Taiwan-based DIY motherboard makers.

Some of the makers are worried that the earlier launch of Haswell Refresh will disrupt their plans to clear Haswell inventories and develop Haswell Refresh models in the second quarter, although Haswell Refresh is compatible with Haswell, the sources said. The launch of 9-series chipsets in May as originally scheduled will render Taiwan-based makers unable to begin development of DIY motherboards based on Haswell Refresh and 9-series chipsets earlier in April, the sources indicated.

Intel is expected to launch more than 20 Haswell Refresh models in the second quarter of 2014 and Haswell K and E series in the third quarter, the sources noted.

There will be a good 20 new Haswell CPUs released, including a high-end CPU processor bump. This Haswell refresh includes a Core i7-4790, Core i5-4690, Core i5-4590, Core i3-4360, Pentium G3450 and Celeron G1840 and low-power Core i7-4790S, Core i5-4590S and Core i3-4150T. Intel's next-generation Haswell Refresh processors are expected to become available in the retail channel in May. Intel CPU will also start shipping its Z97 and H97 chipsets in April in order to enable motherboard players such as Asustek Computer and Gigabyte Technology to start selling related products at the end of the month. Intel will then release its Haswell Refresh K series and Haswell-E in the third quarter and phase out its Core i5-3350P, Core i3-3225 and Core i3-3210 processors in the first quarter

Better OC'ing, Better Motherboards. Everything Refined.

Great for us not on Haswell yet. And even possibly great for those that are that want to take their OC'ing further.

Can't imagine the OC will be much better tbh anyone on Sandybridge and lower might be worth there while, but Ivy Bridge or Haswell this is probably worth missing, isn't Broadwell out later this year! Better off waiting for that if its out this year also.

It will be better by a fair margin. If you read 14nm....new motherboard chipset as well.

Less heat = higher OC values possible.

This will be a great upgrade for Ivy Bridge.

I'll take 14nm any day. This is what Haswell should have been.

I would not call it great upgrade. It is probably barely noticeable difference clock to clock. We do not know at all if the 14nm process is good for overclocking. Leakage might skyrocket after some point.
