Intel Haswell-E X99 Chipset Details And Launch Time
We have talked about the Intel Haswell-E X99 Chipset quite a bit in the past already. Now more details have surfaced. Basically the X99 chipset which has codename Wellsburg will be released in the June timeframe, Computex anyone ? New to the list is confirmed support for DDR4 memory.
X99 chipset will support low voltage (1.2V) DDR4 RAM kits (must be the 1333 MHz ones). The DIMM connector now has 288 pins (as opposed to 284 from earlier), the 4 additional pins added to support NVDIMM modules. Good news is that both 284/288 pin RAM modules will be usable on motherboards with the 284 pin connector or the new 288 pin connector. It will have 14 USB ports and 10 Sata ports. Interestingly it will also feature Intel’s Integrated Clock Support.
Both the 6 core and 8 core processor versions will get a 140 W TDP and a maximum memory speed of 2133Mhz per DIMM slot. Haswell-E will bring a new version of your same old LGA 2011 socket with it. Dubbed LGA 2011-3, the derived socket has the same dimensions and ball pattern pitch as LGA 2011. Basically, the number of pins remains the same while their layout changes. According to the slides, the new design is more efficient as per Intel’s research, and additional wings in the LGA 2011-3 socket help improve package handling.

They may pull something nice though and price a 6-core under $400 and unlocked like they did with the 4820k (yes I know that's a quad), but I'm not holding my breath.
Is it confirmed that there will be no quad core on Haswell-e?
EDIT: Did a bit of checking all I see is 6 and 8 core info so it appears no quad. If that is the case a locked multi 6 core at the $330 point is a good possibility.

In EU atm 4930K sells for ~ 470€, i kinda doubt it will be lower then that, would be nice yeah to see 6core variant for current 4core price ~ 260€

Looks like only 6 & 8 core variant

^
Apparently up to 55% faster 8core @ 3ghz vs 4core @ 3.7ghz, now if they make a base 3ghz then huh, kinda doubt it will Oc beyond 4.2 -4.4ghz and stay cool

Also it will have the same efficient onboard iVR like mainstream Haswell and later Broadwell..

If they do a 6 core at the current 4820k price it will have a locked multi and most likely a 3.0-3.2 frequency.
BTW I'm sure I can keep it cool under water. Anyone going for the 8 core CPU's most likely have the money to go H2O.

Oh, ok. I thought Haswell-E would be designated x89 not x99, although x99 does make more sense. It'll soon be time to retire my Asus Rampage 2 Extreme (x58 northwood motherboard) and this new chipset is The One. hallelujah! Praise Intel.
