Intel Devil’s Canyon Delayed To Late September 2014

Published by

As you guys know unlocked Intel Devil’s Canyon processors (Core i7-4790K and Core i5-4690K processors) are supposed to be released during the week of Computex (June 2nd). New information indicates that Intel will only paper launch these processors (e.g. announce them).

Word right now is that the processors will not be available in retail until September 2014. If this information is real then it is gonna be a huge blow in the face of many, especially with the recently released Z97 chipsets in mind. The funny thing is that many etailers have listed these processors under pre-order, yet now are changing the availability listing to September. This information was obtained by Expreview. Also fot the Devil’s Canyon processor release the motherboard manufacturers really wanted to launch their most high-end Z97 motherboards. Think ASUS ASUS Maximus VII, etc. These boards will be launched with Devil’s Canyon and marketed as proper overclocking boards with support for Devil’s Canyon. So it looks like that these boards will be dlayed as well.

For now this is considered to be nothing more then a rumor, I have yet to verify this information with Intel.

Devil's Canyon processors have an improved heatspreader & thermal insulation material in that CPU package that is going to cool these processors much better once you pump extra volts in them. The flagship CPU will get a turbo clock of 4.4 GHz at default. The i7-4790K will launch with a clock speed of 4.00 GHz and a Turbo Boost frequency of 4.40 GHz. The Core i5-4670K launches clock speed of 3.50 GHz, with Turbo Boost frequency of 3.90 GHz. According to new info it is expected that these CPUs would be capable of running at clock speeds of 5.00 GHz, on air-cooling.
