Intel desktop roadmap for H2 2013 and H1 2014

Intel desktop roadmap for H2 2013 and H1 2014

Haswell desktop processors debuted last week, and, as was the case with Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge launches, the initial lineup consisted of Core i5 and i7 quad-core models. Less expensive products, such as Core i3 and Pentium CPUs, were expected later this year, but we didn't have much information about specific SKUs up until now. Guru3D's own Asder recently stumbled on a few slides from Intel desktop roadmap, that shed more light on Haswell mid-range lineup. The roadmap shows several Core i3 and Pentium model numbers, and we were able to confirm them using another source. The roadmap slides, originally published in the last week of May, also mention Haswell refresh.

In the third quarter, Intel is going to launch next generation of Core i7 Extreme microprocessors, including Core i7-4820K, i7-4930K and i7-4960X. These CPUs will be based on Ivy Bridge-E core. Furthermore, Intel will add support for Ivy Bridge-E core to X79 chipset.

Also in Q3, Haswell line of chips will be expanded with Core i7-4771 SKU, and several Core i3 and Pentium microprocessors. It is not obvious how the i7-4771 will differ from the i7-4770.

New mid-class Haswell processors, planned by Intel, are Core i3-4130, i3-4330, i3-4340. The former two CPUs are going to replace recently launched Core i3-3240 and i3-3240/i3-3245. Currently available Pentium G2030, G2130 and G2140, all based on Ivy Bridge architecture, will be superseded by Pentium G3220, G3420 and G3430. The launch of Core i3 and Pentium processors will be accompanied by new H81 chipset.

The roadmap doesn't contain any specifics on new SKUs for Q4 2013 and the first two quarters of 2014. It does say that Haswell Celeron processors are scheduled to launch in Q1 2014. Additionally, it shows that Haswell refresh is coming in Q2 2014, and that the launch of Z97 and H97 chipsets will coincide with the refresh - via CPU-world via Asder.

Looks fake.

Intel previously stated that Silvermont will join Haswell in the low end Celerons and Pentiums. That is missing from this "roadmap".

I am waiting for Haswell-EXTREME with DDR4 and Quad-Channels confirmed. Rumors say it will support 6-12 CPU Cores but thats yet to be seen.

Haswell-E Compatible With X99 Chipset and LGA2011-3 Socket – DDR4 Support Confirmed

We know that Ivy Bridge-E launches in Q3 2013 and would consist of three SKUs which would be compatible with the current LGA 2011 socket and X79 chipset based motherboards. A year after its launch, the Ivy Bridge-E would be replaced by the Haswell-E platform which brings alot of new developments along with it. Haswell-E would be compatible with the X99 chipset which we heard off a while ago. Not much is known what improvement or key features X99 chipset has to offer but we can point out the addition of SATA Express support with the Haswell-E platform.

Now the most interesting thing about the slide is that while Haswell-E processors would be compatible with LGA 2011 socket, they would also offer compatibility with the new LGA 2013 socket. Now the LGA 2013 socket can be seen mentioned in the slide as (2011-3), now we can’t officially say that it would be a new socket so we will have to wait for some official reports. But i guess that since VR-Zone is reporting that Haswell-E would be the first platform to officially bring DDR4 support to consumers, Intel could develop LGA 2013 motherboards with DDR4 DIMMs compatibility while the LGA 2011 socket would restrict users to LGA 2011 socket. Another possibility is that the LGA 2011 socket would feature the X79 chipset which would be backwards compatible with Haswell-E but to gain access to DDR4 support, users would have to move towards the X99 chipset based LGA 2013 motherboards.

So DDR4 or not, its good to know that we won’t have to wait over two years for a platform to replace the Ivy Bridge-E processors. Other reports mention that Haswell-E would bring 8-12 core SKUs in Intel’s desktop platform. Whether or not this hold truth, only time would tell.

Well, if they are honestly going to make some like ivybridge-e, I might actually be buying a rig this year. Those LGA2011's are still holding their own after a year or two.

Sounds interesting, but Haswell E should be is far away still.... maybe a year an half, and if doesnt release more cores might end up like this gen sandy/ivy/haswell none E being very similar. I think Skylake is where intel might release something worth it... or by then i hope AMD has something in their sleve to compete, else we going to be milked to death by intel and their super low upgrade platforms.
