Intel Desktop Roadmap Confirms Broadwell & Skylake desktop SKUs

Intel Desktop Roadmap Confirms Broadwell & Skylake desktop SKUs

Over at the Chinese based pconline two slides have appeared showing and confirming the 2015 and 2016 line-up for desktop processors from Intel. It also confirms Broadwell-E in 2016.

The two leaked slides show quite a bit really, both 5th gen Broadwell processors and 6th Generation Skylake series processors. As expected soon we will see 14nm Broadwell Core i5-5675C, and the Core i7-5775C processors. Just to recap, versions with the 'C" extension are the desktop LGA 1150 models, the 'R" models get a BGA socket.

The C models will come with an unlocked multiplier (in the past that was K or X model). Initially five models will be launched but three of them are BGA and thus soldered onto the PCB socket.

All Broadwell based ICs will get four cores, IGP wise the Iris Pro 6200 and JEDEC DDR3 1600 MHz support. And again all models will get a 65W TDP, which is lower compared to Haswell with its 84W/95W TDP.

On the Skylake side the slides show the Core 6400/6500/6600/6700 series, tagged as i5 and i7 in the charts here is what we know thus far. The Core i7 6700K would be a 4.0 Ghz processor that can boost to 4.2 GHz, the 6600K model would do 3.5/3.9 GHz.

Core i7 6700K 4 cores and Hyper-Threading, 4.0GHz frequency, 4.20GHz maximum Turbo Boost frequency, 8MB last-level cache, dual-channel DDR3/DDR4 memory controller with 1600MHz or 2133MHz support, 95W TDP, Intel HD Graphics 5000-series integrated graphics core, LGA1151 packaging

Core i5 6600K 4 cores, 3.50GHz frequency, 3.90GHz maximum Turbo Boost frequency, 6MB last-level cache, dual-channel DDR3/DDR4 memory controller with 1600MHz or 2133MHz support, 95W TDP, Intel HD Graphics 5000-series integrated graphics core, LGA1151 packaging.

Skylake is the codename used by Intel for the 14nm processor microarchitecture under development and due to launch in 2015 as the successor to the Broadwell architecture. Intel 14nm Skylake processors will feature PCIe gen 4, DDR4 Memory and SATA Express support.

While desktop Broadwell will probably be a good chip it seem to be quickly swamped by Skylake.
Difficult to see a reason to go with Broadwell even if it's big improvement.

To use the same board. Broadwell will use LGA 1150, Skylake moves on to 1151.
