Intel Could Fight off AMD Ryzen 5000 just based on lower prices
You all will have noticed that AMD's Ryzen 5000 is seeing a pretty significant price premium, all processors have gotten an uplift of 50 USD per proc seen over the current generation. And that opens up a competitive windows for Intel.
Intel would be willing to engage a fight with its Rocket Lake-S processors. A new leak (and it is just that) indicates that price could be a key competitive factor for the next generation of CPUs.
Leaker Raichu shared information on upcoming Intel processors on Twitter. He indicates that both the Core i9 and the 11th generation Core i7 will arrive with a configuration of 8 cores and 16 threads. The most important data he mentions is price: it seems that we will have an Intel Core i7 with a cost below $400 dollars. He indicates that the price could settle around $349 or $379, a significant difference compared to the $449 that the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X costs.
On the other hand, the Intel Core i5 would have 6 cores and 12 processing threads for a price below $300, being a direct competitor to the Ryzen 5 5600X that costs $ 299. Of course, this should be considered as a rumor, and as such the information should be treated like that.

The 10700K is selling for £370 at the moment, assuming the 5800X costs £400, which it may not, Intel is already cheaper. AMD really should have consolidated their dominance on the desktop with Zen 3 and not increased prices for this gen, putting Intel completely in the shade, and not giving them any opportunity to stay relevant.

Sounds like AMD FX times - competition is slower, more power consuming but at least cheaper

Personally speaking I buy based on price/perf, not whether something is "shiny" and that's the reason I've bought AMD for my last two builds. If I were building a new system now I would go Z490/10070K. That is, if I were buying with the price the 5800X is at launch. Historically there has been more movement on prices with AMD products than Intel, perhaps the cost on some Zen 3 products will settle to be more in line with Zen 2 once those products are no longer available.

It's quite a good position though for the consumer, when performance is suddenly close then companies either have to make sales by cutting the price or alternatively trying to eek out more performance as nVidia did, to compete.
We shall see, perhaps Intel cannot eek out more performance though so have to adjust the price.
