Intel Core i7 Haswell-E and X99 Motherboards Launch Date Revealed
It wasn't a big secret really, but over in Asia the launch date for the new X99 motherboards and Core i7 5960X, Core i7-5930K and Core i7-5820K have been leaked. The release date 'should' be on the 29th of August, 2014 according to Hermitage Akihabara. Interesting is that they also have photo's online.
Recently the website Coolaler already posted an article with details and specifications of three of the upcoming Haswell-E processors, namely the Intel Core i7-5960X, Core i7-5930K and Core i7-5820K.
And keep in mind, the following is are speculated
Intel Core i7-5960X Extreme Haswell-E
Haswell-E will have one X-type processor or the Extreme processor, and two K-series or the unlock processors. The Intel Core i7-5960X Extreme Haswell-E processor, being the flagship CPU, features a total of 8 cores / 16 threads and has Hyper Threading. It has a base clock of 3.GHz with 20MB cache and will support DDR4 memory. It will also support multiple graphics card configuration with the first two cards running at x16 speed and the third one running at x8 speed. It will also have a maximum PCI Express link speed of 8GT/s and a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 140W.
Intel Core i7-5930K and Core i7-5820K Haswell-E
The Extreme processor is followed by two Core i7 processors with unlock multipliers – the Intel Core i7-5930K and Core i7-5820K Haswell-E. Both processors features 6 cores / 12 threads, also with Hyper Threading, and has a base clock of 3.5GHz and 3.3GHz respectively. The Intel Core i7-5930K and Core i7-5820K will also support DDR4 memory and a memory frequency of 2133MHz. Both processors are somewhat the same, but they differ in the PCI Express configuration. The Core i7-5930K will have 2 x16 + 1 x8 configuration, similar with the Core i7-5960X; meanwhile the Core i7-5820K will only support 1 x16 + 1 x8 + 1 x4 multiple graphics card configuration.
It seems that the Intel Core i7-5930K will be the sweet spot processor here, unless Intel will change the specs before officially releasing it, or announce another “better” Haswell-E processor along the way.
Of course everything is speculation up-to this point, Intel ahs not shared any information.

UEFI...

I'd surely go for PCIe 3, SATA3 and probably USB3.1, but after all, it's mine is a gaming rig. Not much use in USB, and the other things just for loading times and performance hehe

I must be one of the only people who dont like UEFI, its slow and cumbersome. I move the mouse to the side and use good old keys, much faster

@CPC yeah there aint a great difference for gaming, still nice to go X99 but i think the sweet spot will be the 5930k. I wouldnt bother with the 8 core unless your gonna use it.

It's literally just a gui for people scared of the old bios looks. Nothing they offer that couldn't have been done with a normal bios...

Well the gui is one thing, but UEFI act way differently of the good old bios in term of booting, detecting hardware, etc ..

The thing is if games do not start taking advantage of the extra cores then a Highly clocked Devils Canyon will blow an 8 core away for gaming. The 8 core will not clock so high and the cores are not utilized in games so the cpu with the higher Bandwidth will win on performance in games in theory.
See that? that's a 5960x. It's also a 5960x with the lid removed, and one can clearly see that it has 12 cores, 4 of which have been disabled.
So basically, mate, it's a rebadged Xeon and Xeon's are not as good for gaming as other cpu's. If your a gamer id tread carefully before you buy
Damn it Veteran you beat me too it, was going to post that exact screenshot as well.
I moved over from X58 to Z87 and to be honest, its not really that much faster in games.
I do notice my minimum fps has improved by about 5% depending on the games. BF4 for example in DX11 maxed out on x58 4.2GHz and same exact spec as here now I got minimum of 44fps in 64 player servers with **** going crazy. Now with same settings but 4770K at 4.5GHz and my minimum has risen to 55fps when everything is going crazy. Mantle brings this up to a solid 60fps consistent.
This is mainly due to haswell having better raw core performance, a higher overclock, and the fact that BF4 is heavily CPU focused.
The upgrade was worth it though, it didn't break the bank like X79 would have, it gave me USB3, SATA3, PCIE3, better overclocking, a much much better motherboard too in terms of layout, design, and of cource UEFI bios... oh god where have you been all my life UEFI! lol
