Intel Core i7-6950X Broadwell-E Launches in 2nd Quarter 2016

Intel Core i7-6950X Broadwell-E Launches in 2nd Quarter 2016

At least that's what a leaked slide says. Broadwell-E is of course the mac-daddy version of Intel's processors, much like the current Core i7 5960X the 6000 series is to launch as flashship processors. And the top dog will get 10 physical CPU Cores hyper-threaded towards 20 Threads.

Broadwell-E will be tied to the X99 chipset as the website mentions as these processors will be tied towards socket LGA2011-v3. That would be good news for X99 owners as only a BIOS update will be required to get the new processors supported.

Intel Core i7-6950X 10/20 3GHz 25MB LGA2011-v3
Intel Core i7-6900K 8/16 3,3GHz 20MB LGA2011-v3
Intel Core i7-6850K 6/12 3,6GHz 15MB LGA2011-v3
Intel Core i7-6800K 6/12 3,4GHz 15MB LGA2011-v3

As stated, four models will be released, the  i7-6950X, i7-6900K, i7-6850K and i7- 6800K. That Core i7-6950X thus is the flagship CPU. X is Extreme with totally unlocked multipliers and voltages, the K models are more or less the same with a slightly lower voltage ceiling. All models will get some Turbo (dynamic clock frequency) allowance as well. It is unknown when the new processors will be released precisely as Intel has been moving back and forth data from slides quite a lot in the past. The TDP for these processors will likely be 140W.

The slide also has some interesting stuff on Kaby lake in its 28/35/65/ and 95 Watt models. Have a peek, the slide originates from Benchlife.info, click on the thumbnail.

Unless it's used with a highly paralleled program, I don't see the i7-6950X running faster than the i7-6800K.

I am tad interested in 6950X but how much faster will it be then my processor in single threaded tasks I know in something that uses several threads it would trash this one to bits. Disappointed by kaby lake having max 4 cores.

I keep thinking it's nearly time to upgrade to a 6 core but that time never seems to arrive.

Any ideas how long X99 will last? Will it support Skylake-E?

Afaik Skylake-E will get another chipset, something like 199 or similar. Broadwell-E should work with a bios update iirc.
