10900f does use a lot of power, but only with unrealistic stress tests (P95) or agressive OC'ing. CPU power package went up to 230w after 10min on P95 (set at 5.2ghz all cores), but would eventually throttle down to 4.5ghz. So it will go higher if I disable throttling in the bios, but see no point when nothing I do approaches P95 in realistic usage.

Because it has more computational buffer, at least that how it was in the past. I would feel a bit left behind if I didnt. I remember people bitching about haswell being crap and it turned out to be the most competitive chip later on
