Intel Arc A770 Offers Ray Tracing Performance on Par with or Better Than the RTX 3060,

Intel Alchemist's Arc A750 and Arc A770 are ready to face Nvidia and AMD. The chip giant is targeting Nvidia's famous RTX 3060 12GB with both of these cards.

First, PC performance for the A750 and A770 has been widely discussed and rumored about since Intel unveiled its game graphics plans. Both A770 and A750 use the G10 GPU. A770 has 32 Xe Cores, while A750 has 28. The A750 has fewer cores, but the A770 should be faster.

"We'll be slightly faster, but it depends on your game and settings. That's the A750. Petersen continues, "A770 will be faster."

The A770 and A750 can't compete with an RTX 3060 in DX11 games. That's not too surprising, as Petersen and Shrout have already dampened expectations, but DX11 driver optimisations are slower than DX12 and Vulkan ones. In the future months and years, A750 and A770 performance will change. At least in terms of driver development and improvement on Intel's side, but I expect we'll get a better sense of these cards' genuine performance across a range of titles once we benchmark them. Intel seems confident in Arc's ray tracing performance. "We'll make this product competitive for consumers."

Intel's more powerful Alchemist GPUs may have slipped in rumored performance. At a time, Intel was said to have been targeting RTX 3070 performance(opens in new tab) with its 175W to 225W GPUs. For the Arc A770 Limited Edition in front of me, which could reach 225W with an Intel GPU tweaking utility, that seems idealistic. Intel admits it can't match Nvidia's performance per watt (A750 190 watts vs. RTX 3060 170 watts), but it hopes to make up for it in price. Intel recognizes it's a new entrant into the market, and customers need some incentive to roll the dice on its fledgling GPUs. Petersen cautions that prices may change before the official announcement, in keeping with the GPU market.

We hope Intel's A750 and A770 are worth buying when they're released. Nvidia and AMD offer affordable GPUs and are already prepping to release a new generation products.
