Intel Announces Broadwell the 5th gen Intel Core Processor family
Built on Intel’s 14nm manufacturing process, the 5th Gen Intel Broadwell based Core processors are released as we speak. Launched onitially for mobile and SoC based products Intel now officially launches Broadwell.
They deliver premium performance, stunning visuals and enables improved battery life to take computing to the next level. The performance also provides the foundation for more natural and interactive experiences with Intel® RealSense™ technology, Intel® Wireless Display (Intel® WiDi) and voice assistants.
With the "Broadwell" microarchitecture expected to be the fastest mobile transition in company history, offering consumers a broad selection and availability of devices, the 5th Gen Intel Core processors are purpose-built for the next generation of compute devices offering a thin, light and more efficient experience across traditional notebooks, 2 in 1s, Ultrabook™ devices, Chromebooks, All-In-One desktop PCs and mini PCs.
Intel also started shipping its next generation 14nm processor for tablets, codenamed “Cherry Trail”. The new system on a chip will offer new user experiences such as Intel RealSense technology, no wires, no password and Intel Context Aware technology capabilities. New products based on “Cherry Trail” will be introduced starting in the first half of 2015. For more information on both products, view the 5th Gen Intel Core and Cherry Trail fact sheet.

On the other hand, this slow progression has meant that even older platforms can keep up quite nicely. I haven't changed my mobo and CPU in ages (5 years, to be precise), and they're still quite agile, both in everyday use and in gaming. Saved a ton of money.
Of course, I'd definitely like to experience the excitement of a Core2Duo-type quantum leap in the CPU sector, but the lack of pressure to upgrade is a definite silver lining here, especially since I've been short on cash lately.
Then feel free to upgrade any day. Since jump from C2Q to 1st generation i5 is smaller than jump from any stock 1st gen i5 to 2nd generation.
Only after 2nd generation intel slowed that much.

meh where are desktop cpu??? those are all laptop/low power cpu.
I need the new chipset to come out that support DDR4 on motherboard that arnt extreme edition,as i not going down that root again.
I want DDR4 Mobo so i can get ddr4 ram to go with i7 4790k cpu unless there is a i7 5790k or something that comes out running 4ghz base clock speeds.

You will need a new chipset Z170 (Skylake cpus 6790K?) for DDR4, Broadwell (5790K?) is still DDR3.

What exactly would a leap in CPU performance actually bring? The best looking games on the market are all still GPU bound especially now with 4K. It won't do anything and the entire market is shifting towards mobile devices, which is where Intel is clearly driving it's R&D funds.
