Microsoft, NVIDIA, Intel and AMD cease sales to Russia and Belarus (updated)
In separate declarations, both Intel and AMD clarify that they would no longer deliver products to Russia and Belarus. Intel has also established a fundraising effort to assist individuals affected by the Ukraine conflict.
AMD announced a halt to all chip shipments on Thursday morning. By Thursday afternoon, Intel had followed AMD's lead and issued a similar statement.
The chip prohibition, according to AMD, extends to Belarus, which Russia has utilized as a staging area for its offensive forces. "At this moment, AMD is halting its sales and delivery of our goods into Russia and Belarus due to sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States and other nations," an AMD representative stated in an email. "All AMD goods and items that we power (PCs, etc.) in Russia and Belarus."
Intel issued the following statement on the war in Ukraine:
“Intel condemns the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and we have suspended all shipments to customers in both Russia and Belarus. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted by this war, including the people of Ukraine and the surrounding countries and all those around the world with family, friends and loved ones in the region.
“We are working to support all of our employees through this difficult situation, especially those with close ties to this region. We have launched an employee donation and matching campaign through the Intel Foundation that has already raised over $1.2 million for relief efforts, and we are proud of the work our teams in surrounding areas including Poland, Germany and Romania are doing to aid refugees. We will continue to stand with the people of Ukraine and the global community in calling for an immediate end to this war and a swift return to peace.”
Chipmakers TSMC and GlobalFoundries have also acknowledged that they are banning chip exports to Russia.
Updated:
Microsoft will stop selling products and services in Russia as well:
Like the rest of the world, we are horrified, angered and saddened by the images and news coming from the war in Ukraine and condemn this unjustified, unprovoked and unlawful invasion by Russia. I want to use this blog to provide an update on Microsoft’s actions, building on the blog we shared earlier this week. We are announcing today that we will suspend all new sales of Microsoft products and services in Russia. In addition, we are coordinating closely and working in lockstep with the governments of the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom, and we are stopping many aspects of our business in Russia in compliance with governmental sanctions decisions;
Like so many others, we stand with Ukraine in calling for the restoration of peace, respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and the protection of its people.
Updated (2) and not Netflix, as well as NVIDIA, halted their activities also. Nvidia has halted the shipment of video cards and other devices to Russia. A spokeswoman for Nvidia verified the statement to PCMag, but did not elaborate on the reasons behind the move. It is unclear if this solely applies to Nvidia video card sales or to devices made by other manufacturers that use Nvidia technology.
Netflix has announced the suspension of its operations in Russia. Previously, in compliance with local regulations, the service refused to transmit 20 Russian channels. The service will continue to function for Russian accounts with a valid subscription until the subscription expires. Your subscription will not be able to be renewed.

Intel and AMD cease chip sales to Russia and Belarus.
It make me laugh...
They will still sale passing by chinese wholesale, as they were doing during cold war.
Also they can do semi-non-autorised copy, as from the same period (but who give you the plan and where is the foundry? lol)...
When i see the sanction "we will cut the russian finance" then few after brainstorming "but we will make exeption for this and that and also that..."
I am not talking about Ukraine vs Russia (it is not the right forum for that) but It's a drama for me to see the european alliance so weak and submisive to USA.
It's like we are talking to be in the same line than friends 1st then use our mind and face what it is possible to do...
Strange and hard time...

Yuri, sitting in his basement sipping Pepsi Max, screams at his 32" gaming monitor. He's upset. He's been saving every single penny for that 12th gen upgrade and, just as he's about to hit the order button, he realises that he's banned from doing just that. Ordering. Buying. Upgrading. He curses the West. He's against the war, any war.
Intel, "That'll show Putin! (Evil laughter)"
Pointless. Putin should have announced that the Ukraine was hiding weapons of mass destruction.

Wonder would this actually ease supply to other regions and lower costs, other than Russia, that is?

And I won't upgrade until they seek forgiveness from Putin.
I'll stay with an old rig.
Russia provides raw materials for chip makers.
You all know that we are at financial war. Prices are gonna rise more than ever before.
Microchips
Shortages of microchips were a major problem throughout 2021. Some analysts had been predicting that this problem would ease in 2022, but recent developments might dampen such optimism.
As part of the sanctions towards Russia, the US has been threatening to cut off Russia’s supply of microchips. But this rings hollow when Russia and Ukraine are such key exporters of neon, palladium and platinum, all of which are critical for microchip production.
About 90 per cent of neon, which is used for chip lithography, originates from Russia, and 60 per cent of this is purified by one company in Odessa. Alternative sources will require long term investments prior to being able to supply the global market.
Chip manufacturers currently hold an excess of two to four weeks’ additional inventory, but any prolonged supply disruption caused by military action in Ukraine will severely impact the production of semiconductors and products dependent on them, including cars.
