Intel adds new Broadwell and Skylake processors
Intel added several new SKUs for their Broadwell and Skylake processor range. The model vary from Celeron up-to new Core i7 processors. Interesting is that some end with a Du extension, meaning no iGPU unit enabled or lower voltage.
As CPU World reports; the new CPUs have unusual model numbers, like i5-6402P and i5-5200DU, which indicates that they may have different feature-set than the mainstream line of desktop and mobile CPUs. Intel also introduced today Celeron 3855U and 3955U ultra-low voltage models.
Two new desktop processors are Core i3-6098P and Core i5-6402P. Both model numbers have a suffix "P", that was used to signify the lack of integrated GPU in older generations of Core i3/i5 products. There is a good chance that it still means just that. The Core i3-6098P has 2 Hyper-threaded CPU cores, operating at 3.6 GHz. Its official price is $117, which is on a par with the Core i3-6100. The i5-6402P is a quad-core processor with 6 MB of last level cache. The CPU runs at 2.8 GHz, or 100 MHz faster than the Core i5-6400. The i5 processor is priced at $182.
Mobile Core i5-5200DU, i5-6198DU, Core i7-5500DU and i7-6498DU CPUs have the same number of cores, operating frequency and the size of L3 cache as Core i5-5200U, i5-6200U, i7-5500U and i7-6500U respectively. The official prices of "DU" and "U" processors are identical: $281 for mobile Core i5s and $393 for mobile Core i7s. At this time, we do not have information on what feature is associated with the letter "D" in the model number. For specifications of mobile processor please see further below.
Celeron 3855U and 3955U are successors to the 3215U and 3765U ULV chips. The new Celerons operate at 1.6 GHz and 2 GHz, and both have 2 CPU cores and 2 MB of L3 cache. The microprocessors do not support Hyper-Threading, and come with the HD 510 GPU. The CPUs are listed at $107:
Model | Cores / Threads | Frequency | Cache | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|
Celeron 3855U | 2 / 2 | 1.60 GHz | 2MB | $107 |
Celeron 3955U | 2 / 2 | 2.00 GHz | 2MB | $107 |
Core i3-6098P | 2 / 4 | 3.60 GHz | 3MB | $117 |
Core i5-6402P | 4 / 4 | 2.80 GHz | 6MB | $182 |
Core i5-5200DU | 2 / 4 | 2.20 GHz | 3MB | $281 |
Core i5-6198DU | 2 / 4 | 2.30 GHz | 3MB | $281 |
Core i7-5500DU | 2 / 4 | 2.40 GHz | 4MB | $393 |
Core i7-6498DU | 2 / 4 | 2.50 GHz | 4MB | $393 |

Mobile vs non-mobile, the i5's are desktop CPU's the DU i5/i7's are mobile CPU's.

It's such a shame the mobile cpu's cost the double.

Yeep, Core M3-6Y30 is a 5w, 100mm2 processor that costs $281.00 each.
There is literally nothing that competes with it. Intel's X86 locks Windows to Intel and AMD. AMD won't have anything near 5w that's competitive until their 14nm Basilisk stuff comes out, which is now slated for Q4 2016. By that time Intel will have 10nm stuff in the pipeline for mid 2017.
Zen literally has to be the greatest architecture or AMD is gone.

Sucks how they keep advertising them as "i7" when they're clearly 2/4 core/threads, sure they're the power saving ones but they're pretty much like i5 mobiles with higher clocks/cache, and yeah I know there are i5s with 4/4 core/threads out there as well but now its just selling point when people hear or see "i7" they already think its the best and nothing else. (when noobs go.. will it play games? "does it have an i7?" yeah.. "yeah then it can play games") lol yes I hear that all the time xD
Granted in desktop world there are i7 4/8, 6/12, 8/16, and 10/20...
Wish laptops stay at:
i7 = 4/8
i5 = 4/4 (okay 2/4)
i3 = 2/4
Celeron/Pentium 2/2 etc...
Edit: Ah forgot each wattage has their own category (45W, 28W, 15W) of i7/i5/i3s

Why is the core i7 more expencive than the core i5 with less physical cores and less cashe?
