The Core i9-12900KS processor was teased by Intel at CES 2022, but no formal announcements have been made about its release date or availability.

Meanwhile, HXL uncovered a Chinese secondhand seller who was trying to sell an "almost brand new" Core i9-12900KS. In addition, there are screenshots of this eagerly anticipated CPU in action on the page. This Intel Core i9-12900KS with 16C/24T can easily score 29,519 in Cinebench R23 if the used-CPU marketing and screenshots are accurate

The first screenshot from the Chinese listing shows Cinebench R23 running in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. In terms of performance, the Core i9-score 12900KS is in line with expectations. Premium consumer competitors like the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with 16C/32T and the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X with 16C/32T are greatly outperformed (+900cb) by this chip (-500cb).

It is very obvious in this first screenshot that the Core i9-stated 12900KS has a 3.2 GHz base clock. The Core i9-12900K figure is the same as this model. The used sample for sale has a boost clock of 5.4 GHz, which is 200 MHz faster than the i9-12900K, or an about 4% increase in performance. It's possible that the processor is an engineering sample, the motherboard BIOS doesn't correctly support the high boost, or a combination of the two is to blame for the CPU's underperformance at 5.5 GHz.

To show how much better the system's memory performs with this new official CPU, the vendor has included a second screenshot. The memory kit installed has a latency of 51.5ns and is compliant with DDR5-7398 standards. MSI's motherboard was displayed while Cinebench was being run on an Asus motherboard. An extensive collection of high-end computer hardware is available to the vendor.

This so-called Intel Core i9-12900KS is worth about $4,700 at 29,999 Chinese Yuan. In order to profit from the CPU's unofficial status, however, any buyer would have to be highly risk-averse

It should be noted that in order to reach an out-of-the-box boost in frequency of 5.50GHz, Intel had teased earlier this month that the company was still sorting and binning chips. As clock speeds and energy consumption rise, we expect a more sophisticated cooling system to be needed to keep things running well for fans. These factory-overclocked chips will be available by the end of the first quarter of 2022.
