Iiyama Releases a 5k monitor for just eight hundred bucks

Iiyama has released a 5k monitor. It just started listing at retailers, and the price is surprisingly acceptable at a roughly average price of 800 euros. The model, in particular, is the XB2779QQS and has been fitted with a 27-inch IPS screen at a resolution of 5120 x 2880 pixel.

Featuring 5K (5120x2880) resolution, the XB2779QQS can display 14,7 MegaPixels on the screen – a stunning 7 times more than a Full HD monitor. The IPS matrix guarantees high performance with accurate and consistent color reproduction and wide viewing angles. It is a pretty nice looking monitor as well with a black matte finished plastic casing at the back while the front side is covered a metal-colored strip a the lower part of the screen.

The IPS panel is LED backlit which a maximum brightness of 440 cd/m2, the contrast ratio is rated at 1200:1. It is an 8 bits screen, so no HDR. Connectivity wise you are looking at three HDMI ports, these, however, are limited towards 3840 x 2160 pixels and 60 Hz, so mandatory is the usage of DisplayPort 1.3 for 5120 x 2880 pixels at 60 Hz. Displayport 1.3 provides sufficient bandwidth for 5120x2880 pixels / 60Hz. The earlier 5k screens on DisplayPort 1.2 needed two cables with multistream transport as the image would be divided into two 2560x2880 pixels panels.

The XB2779QQS is listed at roughly 799 euros here in the EU.

The first release didn't even have a casing on it! Good to see it running!
