2021 Tesla Model X and S Interior and (AMD Navi 23) Media console gets a fancy upgrade (updated)

Every now and then, we just have to write a small bit on Tesla. Both hated and loved, you have to admit, Tesla is at the forefront of technology, which drives makes our hearts beat a notch faster.

The upcoming 2021 model X and S get a massive upgrade on the interior and receives a renewed infotainment system. And if you look at the photos, yeah, that's Witcher III. Let's talk interior first, as we have to take about the new steering wheel (well wheel). It no longer has traditional levers to indicate direction; the control options for these functions are incorporated in the steering wheel, in the form of touch buttons. There are buttons for indicating functions like direction, lights, horn, Autopilot, and windscreen wipers. But look at that pilot steering wheel design? Personally, I'm not too sure if I'd like such a fixed position.

Much like we have seen in model 3, check out the new 17" screen now in landscape orientation, lacking in Model 3, but present in model S and X is the smaller behind steering wheel dash screen. There is another 8" screen in the rear for the rear seat occupants.

If you look at the photos, you can see The Witcher 3 can be on the 17" screen on the dashboard, these are renders though. The new Tesla would get a computer in all new models that could compete with the new consoles. The raw computing power of the systems in the Plaid Model S and X must be a maximum of 10 teraflops (fp32). Elon Musk asked his Twitter followers last week if there is enthusiasm for playing The Witcher in a Tesla, to which a convincing 'yes' was answered. Tesla says that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will indeed be playable, among other games. Tesla's marketing material also showcases its own variant of Mario Kart with Teslas as karts. Twitter user Patrick Schur found an alleged diagram and posted it on Twitter. The diagram shows a graphics chip from AMD declared Navi 23.

So yes, it is likely that Navi 23 would be the GPU empowering the media control unit. This includes 2 Gigabytes gddr6 chips at 14 Gbps over a 128-bit memory bus. That should allow for a memory bandwidth of 224 GB/s, comparable to that of the new Xbox Series S. The GPU likely has 32 compute units and therefore 2048 streaming processors. Netflix and youtube functionality is also already present in the current model 3. There are more options in the design, of course, but we'll stick to the geeky bits. The new Long Range version costs 89,990 euros and has an estimated range of 663km and the new plaid+ model passes even 800km. Check out the photos, nice.

Have you tried SweetFX already ? - 10/31/2012 06:25 PM
SweetFX allows you to inject a suite of post processing effects into any DX9, 10, or 11 game (32 bit only). It is completely and easily configurable via text file. SweetFX is a mod built on the InjectSMAA shader injector, that allows you to apply a suite of post processing shader effects to your games. With this tools, players can add to their games SMAA, LumaSharpen (Sharpens the image, making details easier to see), Bloom (Makes strong lights bleed their light into their surroundings), a fake HDR effect that mimics an HDR look, Technicolor (Makes the image look like it was processed using a three-strip Technicolor process), Tonemap (Light and color adjustments), Vibrance (Intelligently saturates (or desaturates if you use negative values) the pixels depending on their original saturation), Sepia, Vignette and Dither (Dithers the image making it look like it was displayed on a monitor with more colors than actually present).

No we hate the cars. We are pro performance and pro manual. Anything auto and electric is blah. Tesla is trash in all the regards. They are ugly as well.
What is there to like about them? They are far better electric cars to praise anyways.
About gearbox... there is none on a real electric car, so the problem on auto or manual doesnt exist.
gearbox were invented to make thermic engine with piston usable due to the really narrow usable range and the low efficiency of the solution.
On electric with nearly 99% the torque aviable right away, you don't need it.
And about tesla itself, right now they have many step away from closest outsider... even audi/vw use tesla to help them on electric concept, and you found tesla technology in many other outsider batteries.

I hope you are being sarcastic. Otherwise the marketing has really hit you.

Nah man, this car is clearly not meant to be driven on roads. Drag strip or shallow curve courses only for this super car! (im sarcastically jabbing at the guy you quoted)

Yeah... not real enthusiasts as far as I'm concerned. A real enthusiast can even appreciate a Yugo.

Electric is the future of performance vehicles. Basically every major company is making an electric performance vehicle or hybrid, and it makes sense. You get immense amounts of torque and it's instantaneous. Say what you want about a naturally aspirated engine with a mechanical throttle body but you're never going to get the same level of response. Turbos and superchargers squeeze in a lot of torque but it takes time for it to build up.
As pointed out by rl66, most production electrics don't have gearboxes. Some might have 2 gears, one for overdrive. If you're actually an enthusiast, you'd know there is a massive community revolving around people swapping out combustion engines with electric drivetrains and preserve the original manual gearbox. I myself am building one, with a 4 speed manual (don't really have a use for a 5th gear; don't really have a use for 1st gear either). My daily is a Subaru with the original flat-4 and a 5-speed manual, because I appreciate variety.

Like it or not but Tesla is what triggered the industry shift. Back in 2016, Telsa got a 0-60 time in 2.5 seconds and quarter mile times around 10 seconds, in a sedan that weighs as much as a midsize SUV. That's off the production line, with all the unnecessary bells and whistles. You mean to tell me that's not fast? Do you really think it wouldn't be fun to be pressed into the back of your seat like that? Performance wasn't even a top priority, because the motors actually weren't built to handle high speeds.

There's plenty to like about them. They have good range. They have good safety features. They make your life more convenient in simple ways. They're quiet. They have interesting technologies that push the industry. They're fast.
Are they the best electric cars? Depending on your needs/preferences, no, definitely not. I wouldn't buy one. But the whole thing about being a car enthusiast is having choices, and respecting others'.

I wish that governments ban distracting features in cars. Cars are like power tools. You have to pay attention while driving a car. You don't want to use cell phone while using a table saw.
