by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 12/13/2016 11:26 AM | source: | 15 comment(s)

In December here on Guru3D we will give away nice prizes. That means every day up-to December 31st you will have a chance of winning something. Today we give away a G.Skill - KM780 RGB keyboard. Check out below the fold what you need to do to be eligible to win this product.

Every year during Christmas we give away some cool stuff, this year we are expanding as a thank you to everybody that disabled their ad-blocker. So yes, this is a thank you from Guru3D.com: this is our way of expressing our sincere respect for disabling that ad-blocker on Guru3D.com. We'll hand out a prize every day up-to the 31st of December 2016.

December 13: Win an G.Skill - G.Skill - KM780 RGB keyboard

As G.Skill opens up a new chapter with the new gaming pehiperals they release an RGB line of gaming products including headsets, mice and thus keyboards. The G.SKILL KM780 RGB keyboard we're testing today, is a programmable per key configurable RGB Cherry MX tech based mechanical keyboard. It's not just all about the RGB LEDs and cool lighting animations of course, the keyboard comes in black and heavy design with looks that can be labeled as pleasant. You will also reveice extra rugged swappable keys, the keyboard comes with a USB connector and even a rubberized wrist-rest. From an aesthetics view we think G.Skill gets it. The KM780 is a mechanical FPS gaming keyboard.

Please visit the manufacturer product page here or our review here.

How to join the contest

To participate in this competition what you need to do is, answer the following questions.

  1. What Cherry MX switch type color did Guru3D review ?
  2. How long does the warranty last on G.Skill keyboard kits ?

Also (only if you want to) please give Guru3D.com a like or recommendation.

  • This contest runs one day and end December 14th, 2016 (Central European Time - 11:59 CEST)
  • Just one entry per person is allowed. Detected double entries will be disqualified.

The winners will be emailed in week 1 of 2017, on the Guru3D.com news page we'll note when that happens. We will contact the winner, by email only. There will be no dialog about this contest possible before and after closure.

I'm raising this from the dead... in the dark, with my cheap spare lightless USB keyboard, cos my KM780 RGB died this morning! :(
The cable had enough where it enters the keyboard, too much twisting, but I use it from my sofa so it undoubtedly suffers a bit more wear and tear.
It had a minor issue for a few months but today it said nada.
It lasted over 5 years of cable abuse though, not bad.

Its been a really great keyboard, the only downside, how gaddam loud it is! (crazy loud with brown switches)
I'll keep it as a repair project but for now want to try something new.

I bought one with hall effect switches (magnetic) and adjustable keypress register height, the Apex Pro.
Its apparently very quiet, I wont be able to tell if my second personality is off on one now ;)
It'll be compared to the Corsair K100 OPX, my second PC owns this.

ps I wasnt the winner of the KM780 competition, this is as close to a dedicated thread for the KM780 as we have here. (edit: oops, spotted there is an real thread for this k/b earlier, my bad)
Posted as an fyi for keyboard abuse cases and a shout out for how good it has been, even though it can wake the dead!

@Mufflore

Is it just the usb wire that died? if so you can easily switch it out for another usb wire, they are all the same inside... I've done the same with my G9 mouse wire.

Yep thats why its in the repair bin, it will get seen to then passed on to someone less fortunate, but who keeps the cable still!
I plan on shortening the cable to cut out the bad section.
