GTA V for PC Could Have Support For DX11 & 64 Bit Memory

GTA V for PC Could Have Support For DX11 & 64 Bit Memory

It has been reported on the mighty interwebs that Reddit user Hal_Nein_Thousand got his hands on another part of code of the PS3 version of GTA V, in which it is hinted that the PC version may have support for DX11 and 64 Bit memory. Now the absolute first thing we noticed is the DX 11 tag in the code. This is unarguable, if the DX 11 Code is present then it makes sense that GTA V PC will almost certainly release to a DX 11 Based Port.

Most probably it will have support for DX 9 as well, maybe even DX 10 although that's a long shot. DirectX 11 for GTA V PC also seems very much likely since the last two Rockstar games for the PC - Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire also featured DirectX 11 effects. The second thing is the Bloom reference, it seems that GTA V will employ Bloom effects heavily. Mirrors Edge anyone? (God was that game beautiful). Since the horizon in GTA V is mostly buildings (unless you are in the wilderness) then bloom would do quite well. Also note the x64 reference, which means that the game will have support for 64 Bit memory. ie more then 4 GB of RAM, ie very high texture packs inbound, whether Vanilla or Mods we cant say. So you can easily expect 2k + texture packs in the future. Remember the Ice Enhancer Mod for GTA IV? Well imagine something like that on GTA V and a 4k Output – via wccftech

Because we are an afterthought to them...

And in some cases.. not even thought of at all.

except what we get is better than what the consoles get. compare gta4 on console to gta4 when it was first released on PC. not even close graphically.

So gta might be coming to pc and according to the pride of the human species over at Nvidia Headquaters... The new consoles surprisingly aren't going to be more powerful than the pc.

it wasn't until 2011 that I was able to play GTA4 properly.. hahahaha.. and even then.. it needed mods.

something is very wrong with the title, 64 bit memory ? i would understand 64 bit CPU but memory is purely bandwidth related and pretty much i have only one item with that slow memory - it is Geforce 7300LE in case of emergency when i sell my fast graphic card

I believe you have mis-understood what a 64bit application is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit_computing

Basically every byte you have in your computers memory has a address, represented by a unique number. A 32bit unsigned number (meaning it's designed to only represent positive numbers) can represent exactly 4,294,967,295 unique values, which is approx 4GB. With an application compiled to use a 64bit architecture you theoretically get access to 2^64 unique numbers which means you can address up to 16 exbibytes of memory. In essence this means the application has the capability of using more than 4GB of memory since it can address up to 16 exbibytes of memory. Of course it can only use up to how ever much you have installed in your machine.

The 64bits you're referring to is the bit width of the memory controller for your video card. This is completely different and represents how many bits of data the graphics card can read from memory per clock cycle.

Although maybe I have mis-interpreted your comment. Perhaps the title 64bit application is more appropriate since there is no such thing as 64bit memory.

A bit misleading, GTA IV started running pretty good when intel updated their cpus to the current Core ix lineup.

I remember a Core i7 920 being able to make huge performance increase, especially when OC'd. and that was back in Q4 '08.
It's also worth noting that it loves to eat Vram, so it taxed cards a lot, back when 1GB seemed like a lot.
